I need help in dividing my open plan living room into 3 separate areas

Hi I need help in choosing a divider to separate my kitchen from my living room. Also I want to then separate a small area in my living room to be used as an office. I was looking at using the Karalis (£57) divider from B&Q but I am not sure if it will be too imposing. My open plan living room is about 23ftx16ft

You also can use ceiling track for curtains or have vertical blinds. So when you do not need privacy you can keep space open.

Swveng, 20 ft x 8 ft is a difficult space to create one space. If I'm not mistaken, there would have been a wall about where the TV is now sited and a second working fireplace. Is it possible to remove the chimney breast where you no longer use a fire? This may involve removing the stack right up through the house and roof. If it's a possibility, you will gain more space at that end of your lounge and in the room above as well. You may also want to consider dividing the spaces again with a new stud wall. Should you keep the long space open and remove the chimney breast, the TV unit could be moved to that spot. Another 2 seater sofa could be positioned facing into this area at right angles to the brown sofa to create a TV viewing area. The other end of the room with the bay window could have the easy chair in the bay plus a games table with chairs in front of the fireplace. This can be a homework area as well for the family. Once you work out how to use the space and which furniture pieces you want to retain , if any, then you can decide the colour scheme.

You could have a sofa on the wall that backs on to children's play room, with a pair of swivel chairs opposite ( so can chat to people at dining table too ) and a fireplace or tv on the right wall centrally between them (in the area marked 3500)Have the dining table under where second rooflight is drawn - and have a further pair of swivel Chairs in the window/door area overlooking garden, to watch the children play outside ? But that's just one option... there's lots you can do with this space ! Hello nehajo, You have an amazing blank canvas so some questions to help: And there are soo many interior styles so some questions to help: What is your style ? if you are not sure then What colour is the sofa and the style. Do you have a photo? What are the other furniture do you have ? Any photos ? Do you like colours pastels or brights ? What are your favourite colours ? Do you have a favourite shirt, skirt, jumper that has a pattern or style to it? photo please. Do you have a picture or photos that have a coloured frame ? What colour? Do you like plants ? or you have any already ? Are their any sentimental objects ? what is it, description ? What is the rug you want to buy is there a pic of it ? Are you thinking of some sort of fire, faux stove, or a TV for a focal point in the room ? Do you want to have a workspace in the area too? Oh do you have kids if yes then storage for toys etc if older storage for games consoles, games ? MMMmmmI think that is it to start. Cheers :)

I like the runners and curtains idea. I have seen it used a lot recently including in this restaurant. There are lots of options on materials you can use making it versatile with your style or design and easy to maintain with cleaning. It also allows the space to be versatile like with here where they can open up different areas as it is needed.

If you want to go another level you can even add in lighting above the curtains to add some drama and interest in texture - as well as adding to your lighting layers or zoning within the space.
