Like it too, however - if you have a good electrician, you could ask him to install some plugs that connect to the light switch in the living room. In this way, you could have 2 floor lamps (or one floor, one table) that you'd turn on from the switch (like in hotels). If you buy some good wall lights (up-downs are the trend atm), keep the chandelier and have a couple of floor lamps, you won't need to 'infect your ceiling with acne' (an architect saying about ceiling spots) - but I'd go for it in the kitchen. The picture rail looks too high to me - it could be that it's in line with the window frame; if you plan on a big reno, you should consider lowering it or if you keep it, paint the space between the rail and ceiling in the same colour as the ceiling, not the walls. It is such a stunning room and yes, you really need to keep things as authentic as possible but bringing it right up to date using a modern 'twist' on colour pallets and furniture. Do you have existing furniture? It maybe worth considering an interior designers to work with you on the space to not only ensure it's authentic but to help with sourcing authentic pieces (trade discounts on purchases is a bonus) and getting the overall layout correct which is vital in your family living area. With my own single room package we start with a concept for the space and you can have lots of input the whole way through to make sure it's the right design and enjoyable process for you. I clicked on the company that did this work and they have clearly done some amazing things on other projects. However, I do share the reservations about this one. The symmetry and balance has been lost by exposing the eave and the solid fronted cabinets prevent books or anything personal from being displayed. Additionally, it’s off white walls, off whites sofas and a white fireplace. Doesn’t feel very personal

I would say taking up a chunk of the otherwise useable wall with a radiator really isn't ideal. if you really can't afford to move it, then I would look at how beautiful/low the window is. If it starts low and the room is not super light, I'd be worried about blocking the light. conversely, if its v bright then def dont put TV opposite the window. I would def think about whether this is south/north facing before planning. looks like a lovely room, good luck!!
