Bathroom mirror lighting

As part of a house renovation we are having mirrors cut to size for each bathroom with a heating pad behind.

But I'm struggling with lighting above the mirror. The bathrooms are modern so I would like something sleek and simple to sit horizontally above the mirrors (which are different sizes depending on the bathroom but all large).

Hunting around Houzz I've seen a Mashiko wall light but that is, essentially, a box with a tube in it.

does anyone know of a more compact option. Are LEDs not an option for a bathroom.

any suggestions would be gratefully received!

I'm Gabriela, a designer from Akiva Projects.

First of all, it's a really great idea to use the lighting above the mirrors - that way you can create an indirect lighting in your bathrooms!

In this example, although they didn't use a fitted mirror (which you have) they chose a really modern kind of lighting - rail lighting. It's on trend and gives the room sort of an "industrial chic" look.

I particularly love the example above! It creates an indirect lighting which makes all the difference in the room.

This is a classic dressing-room style lighting.

And that's my favourite one. If you can, consider using two pendants. It looks just amazing!

I really think that those pieces of advice could add value to your project and to your lifestyle.

Many thanks. The rail light looks a good option - any idea where you can buy them from ?

i really like the pendant idea and might try it in one bathroom.

Thank you for taking the time to help...really liking the idea of an arched shape and like both of those options. Will have a look at the Sabbini ones as well. Do you think it matters if the mirror is chrome when the hardware is brushed nickel?

You need a 'spur' - an electrical source. You can take it from the light switch or one of the ceiling lights. If you come off the ceiling light then you can feed the wire across the ceiling and then channel it down the wall. You need an electrician to do this. You then fill the channel in the wall that you've made and hey presto you have electric where you need it.

I don't know if having lighting above the mirrors is your only option at this stage, but I've read that side lighting casts a more even light across the face and is therefore better for tasks such as make-up application and shaving. Lighting solely above the mirror will cast shadows from your forehead and nose down over your face (and is also ageing!) We opted for side lighting for this reason.
