The splash back is the same material then the worktop which is Dekton Kairos.

Hi Kirsty, I agree with one plan a neutral colour with colour changing lights would be a win-win for you both. Coloured back splashes can be a very personal discussion as colour effect us all differently. A warm yellow can always give a kitchen a pop of colour and look very modern too. I've attached a bright yellow , one with a green coloured glass back splash a with blue LED lights and a pale blue backsplash. Hopefully the pictures will give you some inspiration.

I did wonder if I could get away with paint instead of tiles. The room is just too small for two tables. One wall will be bare to free up space. One wall is the understairs cupboard, where the fridge freezer will be, one wall has the window and sink, one will have the cooker in the chimney breast and a full height pantry in one of the niches. The other niche I was planning to put kitchen units including a corner unit connected to the sink unit. Here's a plan which also shows how the current kitchen will be converted into a shower room and utility.

I normally have a real dislike of glass splashbacks, kitchens are full of lots of lines and generally a lack of texture but I actually like these with everything else in the room. I would choose the neutral one though rather than have the glass standout

Kitchen splashback using Alusplash

Yes Jonathan, the upstand was essential, as long lengths of Alusplash are only available in 2 widths based on the usual worktop / wall unit gap most people have. I decided early on in the deign process to have my wall units set higher than usual so there is no step up to extractor level. Even the wider width wouldn't quite span this distance hence the quartz upstand. I know it's not usual to have an upstand as well as a backsplash but I actually like the way the upstand visually widens the worktop. There's actually a vertical join in the Alusplash in the window section but i defy anyone to find it...
