Using black paint in the garden.

For people who are looking to paint their fence or wall in black but are unsure if it will be too much or look odd. Take a look at this example of my mums small garden.

This is before/slightly started.

Finished. Fence paint grey and the wall black.

Need help deciding on paint colour to prettify garden

Light colours always help to make a garden pretty so maybe try a pastel colour. I'm personally in love with a sort of light mint colour, this works really well with white (but any pastel will) cornflour is nice too for gardens as it is more of a contrast to the leaves. Growing a climber up some trellis on the wall might be an idea too, honeysuckle smells very sweet and attracts butterflies but any climber again will work. I have attached the mint colour I meant just for clarity, a word of caution would be that it can look a little clinical so to be used in moderation.

I havent managed to paint the chairs yet but have hidden the yellow one from sight for now. I couldnt bare to see it there any longer ;-) (Sorry ED) I will paint them same colour as table the next time I have a spare moment. I've added a splash of colour to my vase... and I think that might be a safer option!!

Looks fab. I'd love to do mine charcoal grey but the thought of painting all my fencing fills me with horror. I can't really afford to pay someone to do it and there are a lot of plants in the way. Maybe have a go in the winter when the plants have died down a bit .........

I think the black makes the grey look blue. Not for me.

Like what Daisy England said, though I get the reverse effect. The black looks rather blue for me against the grey. I like the effect though as if gives a more chic modern approach from what I can tell. I keep thinking though if it's just pure black or if you had to do a mix in there somewhere. Either way, this is going to my ideas.

Black is a receding colour which means that your boundaries will 'disappear' thus making the garden look bigger. It's also a great contrast to lush green planting and bold coloured flowers, which will sing out against it.
