Apartment in need of some serious TLC

Hi, I have just bought this 1 bedroom apartment and I really don't know where to start. I want to create a more luxurious but also a homely feel. I was thinking of beige & red colour scheme. I don't want anything too bold, more of a classy look. I would really appreciate any help or suggestions you would have or maybe direct me to some photos. Thanks so much!

Depends on how much alteration you want to do, but large deco glaze mirrors, large artwork, make the space larger and more luxurious. Maybe nicer radiators and light fittings?

Many thanks for your suggestions. The large artwork would really make a difference. I was thinking of a large bed frame but wasn't sure if it would make the room look too small? I had a look at your own website and definitely got some ideas. Ironically the apartment block is called the Arc!!

Im a big fan of old and new. Apart from being an interior photographer im also a joiner. I hate seeing ol timber being burnt or thrown out. Theres more reclaimed timber in my store than new. If i can send a pic of this table made from partly roting oak and pine i will. I made oak legs and frame with pine top still with stains and lightly rubbed out Dinks. So yeah rustic or shabby....im in. Not sure on the rug!!

Posted this on another version of this thread but this one seems to be getting going better! Is there scope to add some curtains at the windows? Even if she doesn't pull them across they will make the room look and feel better. If she can hang anything on the wall, a mirror would help. Or get a floor standing mirror to lean against the wall to reflect light and give the feeling of space. Might be too heavy and expensive though. An adjustable desk lamp can be pointed up, on to the wall to cast more light into the room. A bowl of fruit on the table will look good and maybe some books neatly stacked. In fact I've just realised that's what's missing - books! A stack of books, or some lined up along the skirting boards, or a cheap bookcase. Flowers always help a room, but cut flowers will add to the budget, so maybe some dried grasses in an elegant vase? I hope your daughter settles in OK and finds her apartment becomes homely and welcoming. Angie

Jonathan's suggested layout looks far more sensible to me - I looked with some horror at that huge wasted space between the kitchen and utility. Rob has suggested you consider air conditioning - it might be worth finding a consultant on natural ventilation. (Not sure how you find one, but the RIBA might assist, or I can ask my dad, who is a retired architect.) The one thing I can tell you, having twice had major building work done (and I swore never again after the first one...) is that the more thought you put in up front, the less likely you are to regret design choices and find yourself with costly extra works. Large bed frames wont look nice unless you get a bespoke piece made till ceiling level. The beds are perfect. Some nice luxury pillows and a fur throw would give it a classy feel you're looking for.

Do you know if the existing floor is laminate or engineered? Perhaps a lighter oak engineered wood floor would create a more spacious look? Combining this with underfloor heating will give you more design options with the radiators out of the way.

Hi I would remove the red rug and maybe buy a bigger and a beige colour .
I feel you do not need to add anymore red to the lounge as the table will look better as a colour on its own if you go with other items of red it makes it look cheaper !
When picking art maybe go larger and not red . It looks a lovely flat it takes time to personalise
