How do you achieve the uniform rust color? Do you sand the surface to get the even rust on the panels or will it rust evenly regardless of how the surface looks when delivered from the fabricator? thx.

A salt water solution was applied to the steel. This accelerated the process.

A lot of people ask how easy it is to clean stainless steel [worktops]. The simple answer is 'very easy' and GEC Anderson recommend the microfibre cloths that have been mentioned by a number of contributors, in combination with cold water. Simply wipe down the worktop after use to prevent build up of streaks or marks - especially, in hard water areas. And that's it! Some words of caution probably should be taken into account before making a final decision as to whether stainless steel suits your lifestyle. Stainless steel is prone to attracting finger prints and marks and so the key here is to regularly wipe down the surface so as not to let dirt and extraneous material to build up in the first place. Another thing to consider is that stainless steel will scratch and mark over time. This is perfectly normal! Scratches and marks will build up over time, creating a unique patina appearance. Simply ignore them. Your stainless steel worktop will outlast pretty much every other alternative worktop material and should provide you with several decades of useful service.

As Sonia has said - a photo would be useful. However - painting the outside of a metal bath should be absolutely fine. If you google “painting a metal bath”, there’s loads of online guides (although mainly for cast iron). A long time ago, I painted the outside of a metal bath with hammerite and it looked great and lasted brilliantly. Things have moved on a bit from those days - you can now get pretty much any colour and finish that you fancy - including Farrow and Ball and Little Greene. You just need to choose the right primer and top coat. I wouldn’t panic that the bath is stainless steel and not cast iron - it won’t be much different to painting a radiator, which is also usually made of steel.

I adore brass in all its forms, so I would choose brushed brass (says the woman who had boring old white ones!). Really it’s the light switches that are on view rather than the sockets, but if budget allows I would go for brass. A nice warm neutral is Little Greene’s Slaked Lime. I’ve painted a bookcase in it and it’s a pale cream, not too yellow.

Wild card here, but could you experiment with a stained glass effect on the balustrades. Couldn't find any decent example but maybe something modernist and simple like the patterns below. Could also spray paint the silver to a black, bronze or burnished copper or brass? A more expensive but more hard-wearing option would be to send of the handrails to be powder-coated by a professional sprayer.
