Repaying our patio

We have a red/yellow brick house and we're looking to remodel our patio. However, I am finding it very difficult to find a paving stone to compliment the house brick. I'd like a contemporary look and was hoping to use a slate, but I'm not sure if this would be the right choice. Any help would be much appreciated, thanks.

We have a brick house with mottled red bricks. We have recently paved a huge area with grey sandstone which is very consistent in colour. The cool grey looks really effective next to the warm brick colour and we are now doing the front with the same. We considered slate, but it is either very dark or mottled and we wanted something which had the right tone. I will send a picture if I can.

I wouldn't worry about matching all aspects as with some planter and good planting it can really divide up the area beautifully.
Indian sandstone could really look well in this garden. sliver granite is also a very light grey which shows lovely in the sunlight. Enjoy the new garden

We went with Fossil Sandstone, it has some beautiful colours in it, especially when kept clean and the sun shines. It's not too dark, so hopefully will keep the garden light and airy. Plus, as it kind of looks old it sits well with older properties. It's nice to see the fossilised plants etc embedded in it!

We have a similar coloured house and for years I felt we needed warm sandstone colours for a patio, but I didn't fancy that so we never did anything. In the end we thought sod it and did it grey like we wanted, and I don't think it looks bad.

Hi LTS. This is before and after, although we still need to turf it and do a bit of rendering. We removed awful conservatory (and windows) and re-used the bricks and a ton of hardcore. New patio is designed to change shape of the shallow garden. Pleased with colour, would choose again.

The jury is out on mortar though. I find the resin based stuff (that you brush in) gets a bit dirty, I prefer the old fashioned way.
