Coving ... Keep it or get rid?
Comments (7)Hello Jackie, Well the thing about cornice or other details such as dado and or even skirting.. There's many ways to address this from complimentary lighter or darker to traditional white/creamier colours. It takes the ceiling into question too as this can also be complimentary to the walls i.e not white (if there's colour) and spatially too, you can create width and or height in how you address these details coupled with the wall treatments. A lot of people will paint the portion above cornice white or a "white" colour and the ceiling to compliment with the cornice a slightly brighter shade of said "white" colour.. It could be any shade of white to cream but you get the idea. With a modern build and you have no pic here, I would say why not leave it if it's not ghastly.. I do though love the two tone wall which has it's roots in period architecture (It can also be done for skirting where there is none) Now coming, as everything does back into current fashion.. Notice I don't say trend.. Can't stand the word and I believe rather than go with trend you should set it.. With what you like as opposed to what everyone else is doing.. So to perhaps inform you best.. Consider the palette you want to use, light and airy or darker and dramatic and take it from there.. I love to work the woodwork into the scheme but of course what you choose will be what works for you and the space.. : ))...See MoreCoving/Cornice Dilemma
Comments (7)Hi George, What a great property, coming along nicely. I agree with sksj1 - it is not essential to have one now. I would go for the picture rail now and save until you can afford to have it done properly in the style that matches the space. You also then have time to shop around and get things in sales or if you are using an interior designer somewhere in the property, they would be able to sort something for you and use trade discounts etc. If you are set on one of the two choices you have shown above then the larger one will have more of an impact - the other one may get lost which might look odd with the taller and detailed skirting I see there. I hope this helps but if I can be have further assistance please do not hesitate to contact me. Regards, Gina...See MoreCoving problem advice please
Comments (5)This may say more about my overall approach to home decor than I would normally be willing to admit to... but couldn't you just bodge it? A combo of sliced up bit of replacement foam type coving, polyfilla applied in numerous thin layers, sanding and painting would surely cover this up? It looks very noticeable now because it's a gaping hole but filled and painted - along with rest of coving, would go a long way to disguising it. Unless visitors spend ages gazing at hallway ceilings I doubt anyone else would notice! Good luck....See MoreLED coving help
Comments (5)There are now LED strips that feature continuous light rather than dots. A diffuser is still needed but it may help the aesthetics....See Moreminnie101
