Planning a loft conversion - has anyone had any experience ( good or bad ) with regards to joining their dormer with their neighbours loft so there is no gap in between? We are on the end terrace Victorian property.
Mostly they are kept separate. Obviously you will get more room inside if you do join the dormer, however, you will need your neighbours agreement, a party wall agreement plus building regs.
Hi Man About the House, thanks for your reply. Yes, neighbours are ok about etc. I guess what I wanted to know was if anyone had actually joined dormers with neighbours and then had issues/ problems further down the line or in later years e.g. leak/ damage to neighbours loft cause by the other neighbour joining onto their dormer etc.
Hello there. We have undertaken quite a few projects on Victorian houses where dormers join. This has been achieved by both sides enclosing on a party wall that has been extended in height to a minimum of 150mm above the roof deck. Being solid masonary, insulation is then added internally. The roof coverings of the two dormers are protected with lead flashing. As Man About The House has said, party wall agreements are a must. Good luck with your project. Regards David.
