Living room decor
I'd like this room to be functional yet homely. Keeping it in touch with its age (1901). I love the teal and pink with the grey, but is it too much? Should I revamp the wooden chest of drawers?
We struggle with the layout of the room as it's so long and narrow with 4 alcoves and 2 fireplaces. We sit at the back of the room as we like to slouch around the wood burner on cushions, but prefer to sit at the back of the room for privacy. Oh... And we are doing this ourselves with limited resources. Oh to be rich!

Something similar to Atlas 951 from Hay Attached are also the pictures of chairs we have in mind (either Bordeaux or orange) and the walnut table that will go with it. Comments (2)I had 2 dark brown similar sofas at our old house in a small living room but it never felt dark. our wall colour was chic shadow and we had all beige and grey textiles (rug/curtain/cushions/throw) I think all the white wood helped to keep it light. the lovely high victorian ceilings helped too. Comments (15)I'm going against the grain here and would stay with the lighter color, all round. I would suggest taking out the ladder shelf, hopefully you can use this elsewhere, and swap the chair to it's position. How about a floating shelf, or may be 2, above the PC's? For a few books and decorative items. Not all the way across, so some art can go at either end. The red of the rug is great to connect your areas, especially in the art at the PC end. Go with just a couple of pillows, again a red or ochre from the rug. If you feel more is needed, try a throw otherwise you might go into pillow overload! I would add looking for a lamp to come from behind the sofa, one would give you soft evening lighting....See More

6 years agoHi Chelle. I like the little revamped set of drawers, matches your other furniture well. Yes, I would also paint the chest of drawers in the same colour grey and I’d also paint the picture rail in grey as well. Just think the pine is making it look a little dated. I see in your idea book you like teal colours. I think this will look great on the chimney breasts as the current wallpaper does look a bit too busy. How about a wallpaper or wall mural behind the sofa as well. Was thinking of a watercolor effect (one in pics is from Mr Perswall). What I do love is the bold colour pops you have. The teal cushions, yellow and red/pink lampshades, even the orange piping on the dog cushion. Having a few more accessories in these colours will look fab against a rich blue and grey scheme. Also have a look at Bluebell gray soft furnishings and on a more subtle note but with more animals Voyage Maison fabrics. Ah, to be rich indeed:) Even if I was I’d still be finding furniture to revamp and art projects on the cheap. Here’s some ideas:
