Mirrors in the Bathroom, above bath and above toilet?

Hi everyone, I am having a bathroom redone and I am planning on putting a wall length mirror above the bath and possibly above the toilet. I thought that it could help open the small room up a bit but may also look a bit tacky. I'm not fussed about the extra cleaning aspect but thought some people could offer opinions about the appearance.

Pics of the current bathroom below

The tiles are 60x60, same tile floor and wall and above the bath I thought a full width mirror along the back wall with one tile above the bath, then mirror, then another tile above the mirror to the ceiling. Then for above the toilet, a similar approach to keep the mirror at the same level. There will also be a cabinet mirror above the sink. Thanks for suggestions or advice.

I think I would just mirror the alcove and there are too many steps to make it look like one large mirrored surface. You could vary the tones on different walls to create a sense of space.

Completely depends on your preference I guess. We were In our old place for 13 years & had 2 different colour schemes in that time. First both bathroom and toilet were decorated with wood cladding to half height painted a pale sea / sage green with white walls above. After that we used cream marble effect tiles again to half height, white above, mosaic border & dark wood effect flooring. Have a look at bathroom designs on here for inspiration. I think doing something to the walls other than just painting in the toilet makes it a more cohesive scheme.

Recessed lights above bedroom mirror?

Hi, I am installing recessed lights in my bedroom and wondering whether it is a good idea to install one in front of a full-length mirror. I have found information on vanity mirrors but not on regular mirrors outside bathrooms. Would it cast a shadow? This mirror is off the closet, so we use it everyday to get ready. Thanks!

I would put a mirror in there from about waist height up to above your head (how much do you want to see while showering?), with tiles around it as a border to limit the amount of cleaning you will need to do. Definitely have your local glass company do the template and installation. The walls will probably not be straight and therefore the mirror should be measured and fit accordingly. Installing a heat pad behind it will keep it from fogging up but your electrician may not be willing to do this, and it will need a great deal of waterproofing as well.

I think the most straightforward plan would be to use the extension as a new master bedroom with ensuite and walkin wardrobe. The master bedroom is the most important space to get right for resale value upstairs, so it makes sense to spend your money there, rather than spending money on a child's room which will need redecorating in a few years' time anyway. Plan the layout carefully to make the best use of space- the ensuite should be at the back as the plumbing is already there. To avoid the feeling of a long narrow room, you could have a walk through wardrobe dividing the bedroom from the ensuite. With a master ensuite, you won't feel the need for a bigger family bathroom- just freshen it up for the moment with new paint and accessories, then revamp it with a new shower in the future when the children are too old for the bath. Use the smallest room as a guest room, then the children each have a good sized bedroom. If you want to add value to the children's rooms, consider built-in wardrobes but plan them carefully so as not to limit the options for placement of other furniture.

Thanks. The alcove will have a mirrored cabinet as space is quite tight to put storage anywhere else.
