Size of artwork over the fireplace
Comments (9)Pictures are so personal - if you are really attached to that picture and having it in that location, why not consider reframing it? I think it is too small in its current framing, but to go for a wider double or triple white mount and a wider, but simple frame in a white, washed wood or painted style could work really well and might be cheaper than investing in another painting! I think reframing a picture can often transform it to something with the wow factor....See MoreHelp have only £600 to do something with this fireplace.
Comments (9)It looks like the original brick around the sides of the opening, with a bread oven on the left. I would remove the concrete at the bottom, clean up the original bricks and make a feature of the bread oven as a little niche to display some nice ceramics. You could plaster above and around, then add a piece of slate for a hearth, and if you haven't got enough money to add a fire - real or gas/ electric, I'd put a temporary block on the chimney to stop draughts, and fill the fireplace insert with a plant, dried flowers, wood- even books stacked in there would look nice and purposeful until you can afford what you really want. You could add a floating shelf and a mirror above, too. If you only have a limited budget I think it's always best to wait until you can afford what you really want rather than compromise, and if you are not sure make it look tidy until you have decided....See MoreTv niche over fireplace
Comments (2)I'd put a mirror in it with some LED candles in front or you could have a nice display with spot light. You could also cover it up with art, mirror or some fancy wood paneling that is larger than the tv niche. Could also be a useful storage area for small bits and bobs. Just thinking about safes that are hidden behind a painting like in the movies:)...See MoreSomething went "wrong" ~~ Advice please?? Thanks
Comments (22)The table doesn't look 'government issue' to me, it's beautiful with a lovely grain. I am not convinced the chairs go, they look a little cluttered around it. The cool white walls and the amount of wood look quite stark, I think they need breaking up a bit. To 'loosen' things up I would think about how to create some contrasts, some mid tone colours and some less structured elements such as plants, handmade items etc. As the look so far is quite reserved and minimal, I would think about adding subtle colours and lots textures to add warmth and character. The images below are of a formal looking space with dark floors, but the dark floors are broken up with pale rugs and the pale walls are broken up with characterful dark pieces of furniture and mirrors. As there is not much saturated colour, the variety of textures is really important, sisal, glass, gilt mirror etc. The wall colour in the images below is not pure white, but a softer neutral which is a bit warmer and easier on the eye....See MoreJennifer
