What do you look for in a new home?
Comments (23)Location-peaceful but with access to local shops, cafes, transport and schools, where neighbours look after their properties; quality structure; bright but cosy feeling rooms & a nice sized garden. We also wanted a detached house when we moved 2 years ago, as we were fed up with noisy neighbours. Our previous tenement flat was beautiful in a great area but our downstairs neighbor got noiser & noiser over the years we lived there, ultimately using his flat for band practice including amp & drums. We're still renovating, which is becoming frustrating but we're motivated to finish it because we found everything else we were looking for with this house & not planning to move any time soon!...See MoreHELP! Would love advice on how to make (horrid) tv look LESS dominant
Comments (29)Hi, I too love the colour railings, however, i'm ging to disagree with everyone as usual. I've done a mock up of the T.V mounted on the fireplace, but you'd have to build up the sides just to make the size of the T.V make sense. ( Why oh why do men want big T'V's????) I didn't like it. I would highly suggest that the T.V either sits on the other wall opposite the couch, or and i prefer this to anything else. Have a beautiful corner cabinet which then turns the T.V slightly towards the couch and encompasses both storage and all horrible wiring !...See MoreNew beginnings what would you do?
Comments (9)Hi Carolina, Yes, I'm not so fond of a leather couch anymore, find them too cold. if one is right then perhaps I could be persuaded. to be honest the storage furniture is more because I have a partner that likes everything hidden, and two young kids or it could just be specific features that i like from the pictures, i'm yet to see a picture that is my ideal living room. and the fires, I love a good rustic fire, so there's probably a lot of them saved! I do love the natural effect, I Love plants and have plenty unusual exotic succulents and cacti, Emmanuelle, thanks for the advise I learned that the hard way, the couch was a rushed decision swayed by the salesman, because we had a newborn - easy clean, quick delivery. which is why I am looking for inspiration now to get some idea of what I want so there isn't a mad dash to the shops for the first couch available. I do love the soft greens and blues, but I also love teal. forzaitalia thank you, that is the kitchen of my dreams! the colour and style (even the beams but that probably wont be feasible where we are buying). Laura Ashley is my favourite shop and is actually why I Love the country cottage/farmhouse feel plus my great grandparents stayed in a beautiful little farmhouse in Ireland and it was the best. colourhappy, That's what I thought with the instagram side, which is why I'm hesitant to go for inspiration there, I will have a look at that book you suggest, if I'm not going for a leather couch, which colour of sofa do you suggest?...See MoreWhat would you do with this opening in the kitchen?
Comments (20)A big thank you all for your ideas and inspiration. I'm going to explore the idea of a flush, push to open door first as I think this enables me to keep the storage but meets my need to hide the clutter and keep clean lines. And yes the wall cupboard at the end is definitely going, there will be no wall level units on the entire run as I have full height larders on the wall opposite. Whilst I like the idea of using the alcove to display my "nicer" things I don't really have a selection of beautiful crockery to show off and I feel like I would end up buying stuff just to fill the space or the clutter would naturally migrate there!! Also the "window" on the other side used to be a window but is now an opening into a dining room extension so there is no way to really balance this with the alcove....See MoreEllie
