How can I incorporate this look without paying a lot for floor tiles?
Comments (20)Thanks to all who offered advice. The samples arrived and the space invader fabric was our favourite. None of the cube patterns were quite right. Do you think i could skip lining fabric since it is already so thick? I think it might be too bulky for a blind with lining too. The other thing I wanted is some general styling advice. I don't know whether I'm going to be able to pull off the look I was originally going for and i keep getting sidetracked by other things I also like. My original idea was a contemporary classic kitchen with a bit of an edge. So we have light grey shaker doors on bottom, then handleless white slab on top. Flooring probably wood effect herringbone vinyl. Walls will be off white and backsplash behind job will be very pale neutral zellige tiles. Handles will be more industrial style, I like quite a few from dowsing & Reynolds, probably in bronze so quite dark. Then there will be a built in bench with dark blue cushion on the seat and across the back. Table I would like something mid or dark wood and contemporary but I've also liked mid century style ones I've seen. And chairs are undecided but maybe black. Worktops are marble effect Quartz (white with grey veining) and an upstand and sink is undermount stainless steel. I have already bought pendants for above the dining table, they are patterned glass with a black ceiling cord. I can't tell whether I'm going to be able to make this work or just end up with an odd collection of styles which don't quite work and feel disappointed with it....See MoreWhere in the U.K. do you buy accent chairs?
Comments (52)I'm not sure about either to be honest, sorry. I appreciate the ideas though! I think where i'm struggling is i quite like something gold/marble, i'm just aware I have gone for quite statement pieces so I want everything to effortlessly flow together and look well-styled but not gaudy/mish-mashed. I suppose I know how i want it to feel i.e. luxurious, elegant and feminine rather than how i want it to look, if that makes sense? For side tables I was thinking maybe something like this https://www.atkinandthyme.co.uk/furniture/tables/side-tables/castello-side-table.html...See MoreHelp need urgent advice on laminate as carpenter due back in morning
Comments (19)Ah Ribena, sorry to not update before! I think I am still a little traumatised :-) I gave the carpenter strict instructions to do the final room in a staggered format. He even laid out a couple of rows and I was certain he understood what I meant. Then to my horror I saw the job later when he had done 2/3 and the joins were in alignment again!!! Not every other row as before but every third. My heart sank and I had to get him to redo it the next day, and I am the one who has to foot this mistake! I wasted close to £160 for an extra day of labour. He has redone it although there are some pattern repeats right next to each other! He works for a friend of my family so it is awkward. I have covered over the joins in the other bedroom with rugs but I still dislike it. He said it would probably take him half a day to redo it so another £80. Really not sure which way to go Also after all that, I am not sure I like the laminate anyway which is really frustrating, wish I had the budget to have gone for engineered wood. I chose a smooth Quick Step (Impressive range so around £21 a sq m) in oak to try and match the look of real parquet I have in the hallway. Wish I had got a more pronounced grain now! Now wondering what style of rug can put down to soften it. Have a kingsize in there and wondering whether to put two separate rugs down side or one large one underneath? Sorry, you did ask!!!...See MoreHeeelllllpppp! I can’t find a kitchen worktop and I’m a bit stressed
Comments (14)So sorry Daisy English is not impressed with Howdens, I purchased my kitchen from them in Bolton and could not be more pleased. I downsized from a large house with solid oak kitchen units and marble worktops (which after time do stain, whatever anyone tells you) and moved into a much smaller property. With the help of the designer at Howdens she and I designed a kitchen more suitable for my needs, all the units are just to my taste and the appliances are excellent even the oven cleans itself, everything is in there, dishwasher, fridge freezer, washing machine, microwave, second oven, pan drawers, pull out pantry, hob, and extractor fan and sooooo important wine rack, streamlined and so easy to keep clean. Incidentally I have no connection with Howdens, just a satisfied customer!...See MoreBushboard
