Is it an LPG fire?

And if so, do you mind linking me to a company that could provide similar (and perhaps let me in on an approximate cost!)? Many of the commercially available models I'm seeing are too large and this looks about right.

Hi Hannah,

This is a normal gas fireplace. This was designed entirely by us (even the metal hearth) and executed on site under our guidance. Costs vary depending the conditions of the existing wals and chimneys (as we have to design the structural support behind the fireplace, integrate fire and heat insulation, and design all the mechanics around it - air flow - building control regs compliance etc)

I helped my Dad build a fire pit in his garden, he made wooden seats to sit around the metal fire pit with old stone columns for extra seating (unfortunately you can't see the actual fire-pit as behind the stone bench). Lots of stories and fun are had around it until deep into the night. If you have the space it is a great addition to put in! Shannon

The only people I know who use log gassification do ok. However one buys in unseasoned timber at about 10 tonne a go and cuts and stacks it. He has enough space to have 3 years worth at a time. The other one gets a better rate as he is classified as commercial. He heats his home which is also a B&B and also sprays cars at his premises and uses the boiler to heat the spray booth. It is a constant job.

Overall, I'd say our system works well and the stove + back boiler is great if there's a winter power cut. Means we still have some heat and hot water! Solar thermal is very useful in the summer when we don't want the fire / boiler on. But it does mean adjusting when you have your shower to when there's hot water - which is in the evening. But, your workmen may kick up a fuss as the combination's not the easiest to get your head round.
