How to kitchen/diner and living room - All one space

So once walk is knocked down between kitchen and dining room, we will have an L shaped space.

Kitchen will be white handleless matt finish units. Mid century modern style throughout. I like yellow for kitchen wall (or a wall?) with white a blue tiles. This is just one colour scheme idea (I have others) but my issue is how do I decorate the whole space. Obviously kitchen diner will be one space. But don’t think yellow for all

walls will work. But there is an arch between kitchen diner and livng room so sofa and curtains will

need to complement each other. An

y ideas? I’ve never decorated a house before. Always lived in rented and just whacked so magnolia on! Anyone know how to delete a photo? Added by accident!

If you want to create a flow between all spaces, you could use the accent colour(s) that you use in the kitchen (for example: the yellow and blue that you mentioned) and use that for cushions and/or art in the living room. Perhaps a couple of blue glass vases on a sideboard in the dining room. And add some orange or green too.

These accent colours don't have to be the same. They can be different shades.

If you keep the large pieces neutral, white, light grey, wood, you'll have a basis that you can add whatever colour/pattern you'd like to. An accent wall can be easily painted in a different colour.

Cushion covers can be changed without breaking the bank.

I wouldn't really think about the colours until you have had the walls knocked down, that will affect the light etc. Also the flooring will affect things, do you know what that will be?

I have a slight aversion to kitchen islands and any thing high that resembles a breakfast bar - I have no idea why - maybe because of the linear quality and I'm quite keen to keep the openness rather than section the room off, but I do really like the sofa arrangement in the corner - thanks so much for your time and input

Yes we needed an RSJ and all of the walls underpinning as there were no foundations. Was very costly but definitely worth it as we live in that end of the house. I think that With having an older property, costs do just spiral. I can’t remember how much the RSJ was, sorry. i think our building work was about £25000. Can you leave the fireplace in and have it open so you can see it from both sides? Then have your kitchen and dining in the current lounge and your living area where it is at the moment but open it up apart from the firePlace? We’ve left in our old exposed stone work and cleaned it up.

Hi Jo! A few quick answers for you... 1. You can put rooflights into a flat roof, so you don't have to replace it with a pitched roof to add those and get the daylight. Unless you want to add the extra height. 2. Yes you could potentially create a kitchen with island or peninsula in that size of space. Possibly with corner sofa and dining table - though it depends how big you want these to be! 3. Bifolds do have pros and cons. It really depends what you're trying to achieve with them that will determine if they are right for you or not. I often suggest using a large picture window and an oversized door, or sliding doors. These can give you the results you want - easy access to the garden, good views of the garden, good energy efficiency / heat retention, ease of opening the opening bit, and several other benefits... bifolds main benefit is that you can open up a large wall area. But you get more frames blocking your view, they can be heavy to move, they need to stack up to one side which needs to be accounted for in the design, they are not as effective at sealing against weather and heat loss...So it just depends what you want. I can’t say yes or no to that. It depends on the colours, the light, the space. But it definitely could work.
