help warming kitchen up..
kitchen is coming together but it's feeling a bit cold and grey...tiles are greyer than I thought and I'm regretting the flooring but think my husband will kill me if I suggest changing them so looking for accessories/ blind ideas to help make it more homely. any suggestions? Thankyou it does extend into a dining room which I have no table for yet but looking for something oak again to match the worktop.

Comments (27)Hi Jess. It looks so much lighter than with the deep red tone! I think teal, red and yellow are a good combo (again the right shades!). I'd paint the bookcase in the teal and consider painting your chairs in the red (if not look for seat pads). I'd add a large retro sign between the lights (which I would change). Art.co.uk have a good selection but there are lots around. I'd move the yellow bowl to the worktop so it stands out a little more. Also consider adding a few herbs on the worktop. It looks as if the table will move into the middle of the room? I have a wooden gate at the front of the house which is painted in 'Windmill Lane' (Little Greene), so don't want to go OTT on green, as I also like the fact the gate is a different colour. The front of the house is a bit dated in terms of its style, but with some big planters containing climbing roses which will grow up and around the storm porch, this should also soften the look and make it more 'country'. Also, the border which is currently dark grey, is going to be painted in Rock Salt too. So looking for a bit of colour on the window ledges only. Comments (31)I have to say that I don’t ‘get’ why people copy trends. I choose colours because I think they’ll look good to me, and suit the space, and I certainly don’t want to have to redecorate just because I find I can’t live with it. It’s taken me years with my present house’s north facing cloakroom, as I’d never had spaces with that particular north light, before, and I’ve lived in many different houses all over the world. Taking professional advice turned out to be wrong, as well, in that case. Fortunately, with the larger north facing and darker hall, I got it right, 15 years ago, and ever since it’s been a pale aqua, which looks both light, spacious, and oddly enough, being a cool colour, warm, rather than cold. It’s very easy on the eye, and acts almost as a neutral. But the other thing about following trends, is that you end up with the same thing as everybody else, and who wants that? Hm. Maybe some like to be part of a tribe? Perhaps that’s why magnolia paint used to be the go-to colour everywhere....See More- 7 years ago

7 years agoThat is a gorgeous kitchen! I don’t think it looks cold at all, especially as you have that rather lovely oak worktop. As already suggested, wall art and a maybe a roman blind would cosy it up a bit. Would you consider painting the walls a warmer tone? Maybe a lovely dull pink, rather like one of your canisters. F&B Setting Plaster comes to mind or Little Greene’s Dorchester Pink. Just a thought.
