Large awkward space in living room
Comments (16)I would put a huge gloss top table in the corner at the same height or a little lower, than your sofas. It would really suit a large bow table lamp with a wide coolie shade, and a couple of objet d'art to finish it off. Don't look at the colours below, I'm showing you the arrangement only. Based on your own room, choose a white gloss table, and add a lamp similar to the one I'm showing below in scale, but try to tie the colour of the shade in with your floor, to add warmth to a cool scheme on your walls and sofas.. You can't go wrong. Classic and classy. Let me know what you decide! x...See MoreIdeas for my sad looking living room.
Comments (32)Start by taking out everything you don't want/need Paint your walls white to start with as this will give the room a fresh new feel, you can always change this if you want but you can't go wrong with white. Dulux pure brilliant white is a good choice so you don't get confused with the cold/warm undertones. Change the largest sofa for something smaller, I don't mind the other one as it is a modern style but if it is worn and you feel you need to change then now is the best time. Wool fabric is a great hard wearing choice and is easy to clean. I have children and have had mid charcoal wool fabric sofas for 4 years and they are perfect! Don't forget that your sofa is an investment so put your money into this as décor can be changed a lot cheaper! Paint the fire surround colour to a charcoal to make it stand out and also link in with the sofas NOW.... is the fun part! I'd concentrate on the red curtains and find some art work or wallpaper or a rug or cushion that you REALLY love with red in and possibly some other bright colours. Be creative & bold! I would consider changing the green curtains but by this stage you'll have a better feel of the room and where it is heading and how you want the room to look from here. If you are worried about the cost of curtains, I'd look at IKEA as you can get some lovely cheap curtains from there. Once you've got to this stage, I'd post some before pics and after pics for us on Houzz and ask for further advice on decorating as you would have a blank slate and something that you LOVE that you can work with on the colours to bring in touches of texture and warmth and comfort from there. Good Luck!...See MoreIdeas wanted for large victorian living/dining room
Comments (7)Hi. I think it's going to echo until you get some soft furnishings in there. Rug/s, cushions, a throw for the arm of the sofa and curtains (keep them fairly light). A mirror/s will bounce the light as will any reflective accessory, light or piece of furniture. Floor and table lamps will add cosiness, as do plants and books plus different textures for your accessories, When you hang Art, hang it just a few inches above the sofa or dining table so the centre of the art is at eye level, it will connect with the furniture and make it feel cosier. Do add 1/2 pieces of taller things to mix up the scale such as a floor lamp or piece of furniture....See MoreHelp, too much of a good thing: living room too large/too much light
Comments (18)Great apartment. I would agree with the previous comment about getting an interior designer on board, preferably one whom will pass on their trade discounts! I also agree with other comments re zoning, scale etc. I'd also decide what you want to do with the kitchen before looking at the rest of the room as it's a little awkward. I don't know if it would be possible to get a flue in the roof for a suspended log burner? Alternatively which I prefer (but would get a render done first!) is to have a double sided bioethanol fireplace finished in a polished plaster to add texture. I'm not sure what the 5 doors/panels are but could they be covered in a leather/shagreen leather again for texture and interest. You're lacking walls to add art so you could look at suspending double sided art from the ceiling (last pic just to give an idea!) or add sculptures on plinth/s or an art rug (if in budget Knots rugs do some fantastic ones). I'd also look at adding pendant lights. I'd also go for the same style blinds to what they have in place now. If you add lots of textures elsewhere then curtains aren't really needed and I'm not sure they'd enhance such a great feature. Perhaps look into solar window film to make the light more bearable and prevent fading? Does the balcony wrap around as potted plants would also add privacy?...See MoreSally Porter
