Kitchen - black or white worktop, light or dark walls?
Comments (7)I have black granite work tops and a huge amount of them and an island - my reason for choosing is that I believe granite is a lot stronger in the dark colours where as marble is stronger in the light colours - I am (hope husband doesn't see this!) a little bit bored of the black work tops - they are classic but a bit dead - next time, if there is ever a next time, I would not play so safe and would go for light work tops with a bit more interest. I would steer clear of work tops unless you are prepared to really look after them and treat them regularly! As for walls - I would go light - and ensure it is a paint that you can wash splattering off! Not a basic emulsion! That way, by going light you can change colour of kitchen accessories at any time to freshen it up and update it. If I was planning a new kitchen now, I would probably go for light tops with up stands and then have a feature surface in a different material - perhaps a rounded wooden block at the end of a unit as a feature. I love my kitchen but I have played it a bit safe, on reflection!!...See MoreDark Kitchen
Comments (28)An update! So far I have put in a white table and chairs and some white pictures on the wall, and in lieu of a glass door I have installed a 1521 lumens opal white light bulb! It makes the room fresh and bright at all hours. I will work on the other items when budget permits but I thought I'd give you guys a progress report :)....See MoreDark kitchens - are they hot or not?
Comments (37)I'm very conflicted, I look at this kitchen and my immediate response is 'wow!' I love all the moody drama and that would usually be enough to convince me. However for once the practicalities are worrying me, my present home is gloomy enough as it is (not my decor but the amount of light it gets!) and I just don't think it could take a dark kitchen despite all the design advice telling me I should embrace the 'cosiness' and paint everything black. Perhaps if my next home is a bit brighter, which I fully intend it will be, I might be able to 'go over to the dark side' :D...See MoreHelp! Colour for a dark kitchen
Comments (7)Hi Sally, Your kitchen looks great, and to keep within your colour scheme of Greys and the brown fleck in your marble, I've chosen a few colours below which I believe would work for your walls, from the F&B Range. These would help to keep your room light as you're north facing, yet very sophisticated and these will complement your furniture. A little advice on the space itself, I'd lose the Roman blinds as you lose light with these, so would consider rollers. Also, adding a mirror to your wall (left) of your cooker, to bounce some light throughout the space. Looking forward to your reply, if you'd like any further advice feel free to get in touch! :) Kerry x --- Farrow and Ball - Cornforth White --- Farrow and Ball - Skylight --- Farrow and Ball - Strong White...See MoreMax Sheppard
