Lovely colour scheme. I think your only problem is that it is a bit too elongated. Solve this by turning the table and rug round, short end to the wall and it will help widen the dining end of the room. I would change the blind to a mauve shade and put some big pictures with matching mauve coloured frames on the kitchen and dining room walls. A matching vase with pink/purple/blue/white flowers on the table -will tie it all together. The chair is cute - perhaps there is space at the end opposite the kitchen to put it with a little table and one of the lanterns beside it or a magazine rack? Don't get rid of the rug as it breaks up the floor space - the room will look even longer without it - I would add a small matching rug at the kitchen end too. Hope this may help.

Hey, if you like a wood colour and want a smooth transition between floor and a carpet, I'd go with taupe.. But it also depends on the furniture you would pick (or already have). Also grey is a bit colder than taupe so I believe you need to consider if furniture and general feel of the 1st floor would be more cold modern etc or more warm cozy and soft..but it's just my opinion, I'm sure either of them will look great! ;)

Looking at the living room it is actually a reasonably sized space; you just need to make sure you can get from one area to another. My idea would be to have the table (you could have one that seats 6) pretty near the kitchen area (with the long sides parallel to the door), and then have a seating area to the right of the door as you walk in. I would place a sofa perpendicular to the door, so that when you walk in the back of the sofa is on your right, forming a bit of a corridor, and then the tv (presumably you will want one) on the opposite wall. You can then have a pair of chairs facing towards the back wall, forming a separate little "room" there, with coffee or occasional tables, etc. A rug could further define the area. Lighting, as has already been pointed out, is key -- as you won't have much natural light coming into the sitting area a good combination of general and task lighting will be essential both to demarcate the space and to make sure it doesn't become a dark area.

I’m echoing a preference for an open plan kitchen living room but still the separate rooms are impressive and that choice is down to personal taste. However if you need wheelchair access around the bed the grandparents bathroom needs to be bigger too- My elderly relatives weren’t the tidiest bathroom users so a separate guest cloakroom and grandparents ensuite bathroom helps maintain their dignity I would also loose the side windows to that bedroom in order to increase privacy and furniture placement options. I would also make the pantry smaller- consider what you want it for- if you need a small prep kitchen it’s probably fine, but more people need it for storage and then you actually need shallow shelves so everything is easy to see and access. With that in mind it would be easier to use if the door was closer to the kitchen food prep area. All this would be easier to visualise with 3d images. If your architect can’t deliver that lots of designers and concept planners can help too.
