Hi, the wall is custom made plaster which imitates rust by San Marco.

Might sound crazy but a subtle two tone might work not colour blocking but a gradual subtle shade diff a soft off white blue grey teal on top that will not fight against the very bright white window frames and keeping a small room light.. and then getting to a soft blue grey darker teal colour with a soft graded border. And consider painting the unit soft white with an all surface soft white mat or soft sheen paint. Pop up a large piece B&W family photo or a family picked piece of wall art or something wacky like a giant gold fish on a white background framed in a thin bright orange frame and job done...or look up dark snugs/dens with rich bold colours can work well if done correctly .. good luck..

Though a veneer may not fluctuate in size like real oak it will wear out far quicker than a window seat made of solid oak, a very long lasting material. I think the judgement you have to make is whether the surfaces of your window seat need to be that hard wearing, the jointing and edges will also have to be well detailed to achieve something that looks as good as solid oak.

Thank you to both of you. The colour palatte is really useful. Ive been looking at different materials, mostly natural stone or porcelain cladding. Im also considering a rendered wall. I took a drive round the neighbourhood today to see what I liked the look of.

There are lots of worktops available at 3.6 and 4m. I would only look at 20mm square edge though as 38mm with the traditional curved edge just wouldn’t look right in this situation. As an alternative you could have MFC which could be edged and the colour choice is big.
