Help with the frontage of a 1960's house!
Comments (7)Hello Barbara, I do have to say I love the wooden cladding! Definitely take off that glass front porch.. I would also consider wooden window and front door, so you could paint it, however I have just discovered a product that paints plastic so you can then use a coloured paint! I think it would be fabulous to duplicate the wooden half all round.. Take off the glass front porch and see how it looks without one.. Then decide what to do about the stone cladding.. I have to say removing that 1 part alone (porch) is really going to transform your home but I have to say on seeing that wooden cladded part, I'm pretty sold on that! A new drive sounds good and light stone gravel could be nice and perhaps all round.. I would timber the rest and gravel.. Lovely! . : ))...See Morehelp with open plan layout 1960's house

Comments (5)I would be looking at the rest of the street for inspiration. Personally I wouldn’t make any window colour decision until you have made decisions on cladding. For me the things that date this house are the mismatched window apertures and I think if this house was being designed today a cleaner look would mean no transom windows and instead repeated vertical lines. I think modern houses typically have the front door on the front too and only plan big windows when there is garden or a view in front of them. So I would be looking at the possibility of changing the fenestration adding render and a wood cladding. Don’t forget this will need planning permission...See MoreHelp with exterior of 1960s house
Comments (17)Thanks for asking my opinion. For what it’s worth I don’t think the porch or the grey windows suit this house. I don’t mind the casement window style but think a pale or white window colour contrasts better with the dark brick. I still think the drive and adding a pitched roof to the extension will make the biggest difference. I think choosing a window style is difficult but something too fancy sits uncomfortably on the house. So I offer some choices I prefer. As far as porches go I think a pitched roof is unfaithful to the style of the house and a contemporary flat roof would sit better. However I worry that it will either crowd the window and garage door or be too narrow so I’m not sure any porch will work and would concentrate efforts on landscaping....See MoreCelery.
