Comments (25)lots of people have had a good input on colour schemes - colour is a very personal choice .... whether you go for classic rich colour or something more neutral with longevity ... The one thing I would really consider doing is to remove the shelves from either side of the fireplace or at least make them shallower in depth and definitely go for a statement wallpaper or contrasting colour on the fireplace wall. this would make a real feature in the room and less oppressive, opening it up - the existing shelving as practical as it may be really dominates. I appreciate it is probably more of a case of practicality. Also depends on what your office is trying to do for you .... do you need a showcase office to impress visitors, are you there all office hours, ..... colour can create an ambience a mood, relaxing you or giving you a headache ..... ! Most interior designers refer to a certain colour range on the market (F&B) all their colours are quite relaxing even thought they me be deep colours check them out and use them as a starting point - you can always adjust the colour slightly by getting one mixed specially if they are not quite what you want. Oh and on the point of atmosphere - think I would be inclined to add neutral wood to warm up the room ... the floor looks good for sanding down. Good Luck and please post the results....See MoreHelp me find good matching bookcases for this sofa
Comments (10)Hi Mortimer Blake, I see what you mean when it comes to classic style cabinets. Perhaps you need something more modern. How about open shelving (like below)? You could either go for built-in cabinets or freestanding. I would love to have these in my living room but due to space, don't think I can keep them tidy enough! One day though!...See MoreBook case
Comments (15)I wanted a bookcase that would fill the gap between the chimney breast and window , which is 230 cm in height and 150 cm wide. The bookcase will be used mostly for books as we are trying to create two spaces as the living is open plan with this side being a reading area and the other will have a fireplace and the TV ( see picture attached) We have exposed the metal columns to create modern industrial but elegant look. Does anyone have advise on the sofa/armchair layout for this space ?...See MoreBookcase or wall shelves?
Comments (5)Thank you all for your votes and comments. @Pallas, it depends on the space one have, and how many books/ items you want to display at once. Some people prefer to have just one shelf mounted on wall so it doesn't take up much space and some prefer a bookcase which allows for more items to be displayed at once and it's easy to move around if needed. We just wanted to find out which option people find more attractive....See MoreUser
