I think this is a simple case of personal preference. Mine is all the same colour. When I had it installed 2 years ago I hated with a passion 2 tone kitchens but have to admit I do wonder now if I should have had the island darker then the other doors. Having said that I still love the kitchen.

Mine is Dove grey and had the island been a different colour I’d have had a darker grey not a different colour altogether.

Thanks Daisy, I agree it's personal preference, I've just seen a few kitchens in ammonite with a purbeck stone island and the two colours look really good together, I'm just not sure where I'd go with the quartz with these two colours but at least they're in the same grey "family", a huge decision when you're spending so much!

I would go for a dark grey/graphite colour. As above, colour is all down to personal preference.

Hi Kirsty, understand your concern that any colour other than a shade of grey might not be timeless (unless grey becomes less popular than it is now). if it is a paint finish kitchen you can always have the island spray painted if you get tired of it a few years down the line. The example below was Patridge Grey with Morris Blue island (names given by the kitchen Manufacturer). The worktop is Hi Macs white but white quartz would work equally well. I just prefer the former because there are no visible joins.

How about Conforth White? Although kind of think if you’re going for two colours the difference needs to be fairly obvious. How about a mid-grey on the island?

Glad you like it Kirsty. A contrast such as this gives the opportunity to accessorize with it should you so wish. In that paricular project we carried the island colour through for scatter cushions in the open plan lounge, then threw in a bit of Fucshia to bring the entire scheme to life. Hope all goes well.

Hi I’ve just finished my kitchen installation and like you, was drawn to Hague blue but worried that it was becoming ubiquitous so instead went for two shades of grey - dove on the rear run of units and dust on the peninsula and larder cupboard. Cornforth White on the walls. I’m really happy with it. (Not that grey isn’t just as common eh!) The quartz is a lovely warm grey/beige.
There are so many decisions to make, aren’t there? I went through agonies. There’s simply too much choice nowadays. However its like childbirth - somehow once it’s done, you forget all the pain!

Hi I was looking some help and guidance as my head is melted with all the decisions that come with building a house. I'm trying to create a timesless modern kitchen and I've decided to go ammonite cabinets and on my island I have a warm white grey quartz with a wooden breakfast bar. I dont know what colour to put on my walls. I have tried strong white farrow and ball which I like, cornforth white and purbeck stone which I think might be too dark. I have attached a few photos. The last one is the computer generated image. I have light colour tile on my floors too. I have tried railings on the wall that is featuring the ovens. (the ovens will also be cased in the same wood as on the island) but it seems too black. any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Tara x

hi Tara I'd definitely stick with strong white

and try a gorge grey blue called little greene juniper ash for your feature wall it's stunning
