What colour island with cream kitchen and black worktops?
Comments (10)Putting white or light grey on a kitchen floor is asking for martyrdom - fine if you're what Freud called a housewife psychotic; but if mopping your floor three times a day isn't your thing, go for a darker floor and get your reflected light from the vertical surfaces of the island. I would also be wary of white next to cream - call me old-fashioned, but it's one of the few combinations that simply jars. Have you considered having a bold and bright colour for the island as a counterpoint to all that tastefully restrained grey, black and cream?...See MoreWhat colour to choose for kitchen island?
Comments (19)Haugue Blue has quite green undertones to it where as Cornforth White is more red. How about going for the Cornforth White on the perimeter cabinets and Worsted on the island. It will give you a nice contrast without being too dark. This kitchen shot below shows Worsted on the base cabinets and Cornforth on the wall cabinets, the island is also in Worsted with an Oak top. As far as the image above it could well be the same colours on both perimeter and island, but how about Shadow White on the perimeter and Drop Cloth on the island?...See MoreHelp with kitchen colours/ design in north / north west facing room??!
Comments (2)Hi! We have a north facing kitchen/dining/living area with a patio facing west and a window on the east side. We went for a lighter colour (slipper satin) on the kitchen units as they are at the 'back' of the room (ie you enter the kitchen from the hallway, then the living/dining area is at the patio/garden end). It is a lovely soft off white and doesn't look cream because of the cooler light north facing rooms get. We opted for Drop Cloth (also F&B) on walls which a lot of people comment on as it looks nice and warm and not too dark nor too pale. Our accent colour on the island/kitchen peninsula is Railings as I have other dark blue accents in my furnishings. If you are going for Downpipe on the island, I would possibly go for Strong White on your units as Ammonite can look quite cold. I have used S White on both walls and woodwork in other areas of my home and love it. Farrow & Ball told me it suits north light well, as does Wimborne White - which is a lovely warm white. Have you tried a sample of it at all? As for the tiles, I much prefer the blanc ones, think they look more modern. I have attached pics of my kitchen and hallway (which has strong white). I also have an instagram page Dekko Bird you could see more pics on. Hope this helps a little! keira x...See MoreWhat colour for contrasting island and worktop?
Comments (42)Thank you both for responding. I really appreciate it Sonia Im not sure abut a very pale colour especially on the island which is really dark grey. I think it would be high maintenqnce to keep looking clean and a bit too much of a contrast? If you have found any similar I would love to see. I have looked but nothing that grabs me Marylee I put the worktop sample upside down sorry! I know what you mean re more wood though I have seen lots of examples where people have done it successfully. I guess it would have to match exactly. It's giving me such a headache!!...See MoreEllie
