its Called matteuccia struthiopteris, otherwise known as the shuttlecock fern

Would it suit damp clay soil, shade and grow maybe 4 to 5ft in height, along back of a 6ft fence (raised bed)?

Family traditions My grandparents from the 1930s until 1980s used to own a popular shop in a small town. Throughout this time my grandmother would increase her turnover every christmas by creating the most amazing handmade tree Angels and artisan crackers. From September until December it was a tradition of fairy and cracker making. I loved the glitzy fabrics,netting and bright tinsel that adorned the fairies. The cracker making was great fun the smell of the crackers when pulled was nothing like today. Just like Fortnum and Masons my grandmothers Christmas window display would be unveiled at the beginning of December,people would flock to buy her Angels and crackers. I never had one of the fairies and I often wonder if any are still in use today, I hope there is somewhere,in some ones home adorning a tree at the top loved by all as a tradition in memory of my grandmother. Sadly my grandparents are no longer here though the tradition of Christmas cracker pulling reminds me of the excitement and joy at Christmas pulling one of their crackers. Today nothing else cuts the mustard, even though I follow the tradition of making my own, of course I know what's inside. I hope my daughters and grand daughters will follow the family tradition in cracker making one day too. Peace and goodwill to all Ginny

Duck egg blue or sky blue, for the girl it's "frozen blue" and for the boy it's blue. It'll go with all their accessories and toys, too. Funkyfreak has a good point about dividing the room. What about painting the two walls the bed is against in white (neutral territory). Then paint one of the other walls pink and the other blue, and each child has their toy storage etc up against "their" particular wall? Shared toys or drawers/wardrobe go against the neutral walls? If you have the budget, I'd also swap out the bed for a two tier single bunk bed, to free up floor (and wall) space for playing? You can get bunk beds that the bottom bunk converts out into a double, if you need that for guests. Post us some after pics! :)

I once read a story about an old woman, who was listening to a younger woman complain about how her husband left his whiskers in the sink day after day. The old woman, who was a widow, softly reminded her that those whiskers meant her husband was alive and still with her. She, the older woman, would love to wash the whiskers of her husband down the drain every morning because that would mean her husband was still with her. So, when my husband leaves me stranded on the toilet with no toilet paper, instead of getting angry, I remember to be thankful he is still here to grab the last piece off the roll.

Hi. I'd remove the breakfast bar. What may work is wooden shelves either side of your tall units using infills at the side so effectively a mix of these 2 pics. Use the shelves for stacking your bowls and plates etc with a couple of decorative accessories. I can't quite see though whether this gives enough space for the sink? Do you also have a row of plug sockets either side? If this isn't do'able what may possibly work is If you continue the worktop under those 2 cabinets. I'd get a tester of a similar colour paint and just paint underneath to see what you think. I'd then just a splashback behind the hob. I'd then add texture for accessories as colourhappy said. The lights don't appear to be placed suitably for a pendant so perhaps a swing arm or arc lamp over the dining table will add interest and height.

It would grow that much and in damp conditions. It needs to keep moist. Be aware that it can be quite slow to establish so you might want to mix it in with something else.

Yeah was looking at ferns for back of the border maybe mixed in with a few foxgloves and muscari liriope at front, just getting the combination right I struggle with!!

I'm looking for ferns that will grow in a damp clay dark spot too. I'll certainly look for this one. Are there any others that would thrive in those conditions?
