What to do to my bedroom
Comments (15)It is a lovely room but as you have chosen black and white monochrome, you need to get a bold or big/ item in black into the upper part of the room - ie: like a beautiful bold/sculptural black monochrome reading lamp/light for example. And also think about a couple of beautiful grey decorative cushions (monochrome) for the bed. And a beautiful small white sheepskin rug for the black floor, to add the look of more comfort. I would put the mirror above the dressing table instead of above the bed. And find a large interesting black and white art-deco photograph or print to put above the bed. I think a few art-deco style things like the photo/print, a lamp and a sheep skin rug and cushions will look stunning - choose them wisely. And stick to mono-chrome colours which you have already chosen as colour-scheme. That will really bring the room together and make it look fabulous. Good luck and please show us the results afterwards. And one last thing I think a different luxurient headboard to your bed in the art-deco monochrome style is a must....See MoreNeed to fit a big bathroom in loft, any ideas?
Comments (36)Karen, to be honest with you, you do not really need the council's approval (or Lawful Develpment Certificate). As long as you are absolutely sure that what you are doing is within PD, you can just go ahead. The LDC is for future buyers, and can be gained retrospectively. I didn't wait for it on either of my projects - by the time it came from Lambeth I had basically finished the outside of the loft. It is absolutely critical that if you do this, you make sure your plans are compliant though...with loft conversions that is mainly making sure that you do not exceed the maximum additional volume measurements, and that the dormer is set back 20cm from the edge of the original roof. Do make sure your builder is on top of the necessary building control notifications and inspections though - this takes much more effort, and is nothing to do with planning, and absolutely compulsory. Happy to tell you more about this/answer questions: you have my e-mail address. Everything from the specification of windows, through insulation depth required, to position of plug sockets is controlled and needs to be correct. In my experience, plenty of builders don't know enough about the regs and bodge things. https://www.planningportal.co.uk/info/200130/common_projects/120/what_to_do_next/3...See MoreBedroom decorating scheme advice
Comments (73)I think the lighter fern fabric for the curtains would look very nice. And then linen, hessian, grey with pink warm undertone for the walls and ceiling, that the curtains almost blend in, and dark tone black shade for the window frame and the door. You can paint the nightstands black (if I can convince you to add a crystal knob. Alix’s pax handle looks really nice on black) and black low bookshelf in the corner where you have your shelves now, but window height and tour prints above it . Are you keeping that desk in your bedroom or is it for your daughter’s room? You are keeping it, put it under the window with your table mirror on it. Hessian fabric on the wardrobe door and paint the ridges black also. I would go with hessian fabric outside of the glass, it not entirely sure how difficult it is to do, tbh. if You put the fabric inside the glass you’d need to use a transparent glue. You are very good with diy, should be able to do it. If the fabric goes outside of the glass it will have a very different effect from the one if it goes under the glass....See Moreplease help me make a decision
Comments (8)We have a (very) dark green wall in our master bedroom and absolutely love it. However I would say that if you're going for a dark colour (green, navy, black) then make sure it's done in a non-matte finish, as we've found it marks extremely easily (yes even just with dusting/touching!) Not entirely sure what look you're going for, but I personally think dark green or navy with leather pull or brass handles would look lovely. LOVE the design of the wardrobes anyway!...See MoreKaren Sargent
