You're lucky to have two such large light rooms to work with, it's a tough decision as to which would make the best master bedroom. Whilst the attic space is unique and an exciting space, the position of the stairs may make it a difficult space for a well functioning bedroom. I would agree with OnePlan, have a beautiful and comfortable bedroom with the feature fireplace and take the opportunity to do something a little bit different with the attic space, perhaps a snug, library, games room? Hi I would create a balance to both sides by adding a unit to that side but make it deep enough to work as a bedside and then match this on the other side by extending the bottom of the bookshelf to match in depth of the other side giving you basically a matching pair of bedsides. you can the have bedside lamps with out interfering with the bookshelf and it will look great. if you need more storage then have the top two shelves of the bookcase with matching doors to the bedside ones. kr jaimie k

What a pretty room! How ornate do you want to go? How about a dado rail and panelling (look up "faux wainscoting" for a budget friendly DIY solution) in the same colour as the door frames and skirting, to go really old school and elegant? That sort of look suits a statement armchair perched in a corner. As others have said, that floral wallpaper/fabric is great in a bedroom (I think). In an adult bedroom, I'd go a bit nuts with this stuff, frankly. Easy enough to change if you decide to tone it down a bit. If you do it above some classic panelling, it would ameliorate the look. Otherwise, perhaps cool rustic luxury. Matt black lamps, brass, white marble, a stripped brick internal wall (messy but cheap to do). By the way, I am exactly in the same boat as you. We are just finishing the renovation of a Victorian house, and our master suite is the bit that needs to be finished. If it helps, I am genuinely torn between the two looks below. My wife prefers option one - she is a US east coaster, used to funky lofts and DC/NY chic. I like option two - I'm British and grew up with friends whose parents had rambling period country houses full of clutter and slightly bonkers decor, with the odd Spaniel ambling around. Option one: go cool. Option two: go big.

I also can't tell the scale, but would have built in wardrobes either side of the chimney (shrink the bedside tables!), a dressing table in front of the window. Walk in shower where the bath is currently. Could the bath be angled in front of the spiral staircase at all? Looks like a space with loads of potential.
