Architraves - should they compliment your door or skirting boards
Comments (7)i think the one on the left also, the other one is a little too chunky compared to the skirting. Just to add to the mix, you don't have to stick to the skirting they sell in wickes, b&q etc. We have an old house and we went for plain solid board - you can see one next to the dog on the right in the pic below. The plain boards would look great with your doors, you can also have just plain timber ( squared edged ) for the architraves. I think they look like an older design, today's fancier stuff wasn't around in the days that our house was built, 1850, so we thought why not....See MoreInternal Doors & Windows Decisions Decisions!
Comments (11)I’m with the keepers! I think you might end up devaluing your house if you took out all the original features such as the doors, latches etc. I think you need to experiment with some colours for the walls and look at replacing the carpet which is a bit of a cold grey colour. Also have you looked into the history of the house as I don’t think the leaded lights look like original arts and crafts style to me!...See MoreWhat colour to have the pocket doors?
Comments (24)I think we actually have a larger gap than you do! Definitely get sound leakage, however tbh we don't shut them that often. We have a brush edging between the frame and the doors on both sides, but not between the doors themselves. I think the issue would be attaching it now that the doors are in (unless you can take the doors off easily still. as it'd either need to be at the front edge of the door that stays nearest the walls, or the back of the one that meet in the middle. Definitely worth trying to add if you're able to. other thing to consider if sound insulation is very important, we had the handles.. we had the finger pulls that sit on the ends of the doors? but i'm not entirely sure if it's just how they were inserted, but they dont sit 100% flush, meaning when shut there's a slight gap in the middle as well. We said about trying to change it, to get them more flush, but they'd have essentially damaged the doors trying to pry them out by that point! 🤦🏻♀️...See MoreDoors, architraves, skirting conundrum!
Comments (7)That dark mahogany look used to be popular but not so much now. I would paint as much of the woodwork as possible, that is skirting, architrave dado rail. You don’t only have to paint them white and it’s very fashionable now to paint them the same colour as the walls but in the correct woodwork paint. By all means leave the oak doors as they are if you love them. White woodwork does look fresh and you will find it will brighten and cheer up a room no end....See MoreDaisy England
