They are sliding. We deliberated at length. Our architect was always in favoir of sliding. They felt they were more contemporary in look but the main reason was that most of the year they are closed and so we had less panels and less frame with the sliding. I am so glad we went with their advice because we get such a lovely lot of light and connection with the garden with fewer panels and frame. The sliding mechanism works beautifully and there is lots of light. When open they take up no space in the garden. The only downside is on a massively sunny day when you may get the urge to sling doors right back and open like bifold but you have to remember that there is usually then still the width of the stack of doors at the end and for us over our width of opening and with the doors we chose that would have meant 5 bifold doors stacked up. At least when our sliding are open you can still see through the glass of the end panel. Ours slide 2 over one so 2/3 is open. And they can slide to either end. Hope that helps.

I think from Sandtex the Ivory Stone would probably be my choice. Cornish Cream is very very pure cream, too much so for my tastes. Illustrated White, Sandstone or Mid Stone are less cream but would probably do well with the patio. I think, though, most of the cream and the more yellow stone colours would look great, and you don't need to fret about choosing the right one. Also, it's only paint, and a single story extension is very little trouble to repaint if you later feel you've got it wrong or just want a change. Don't sweat it!

Hi Nicola, when thinking about the outside of your house it's always important to consider the style of your home (when is was built) and what others on your street have. There are some rules on what the local council will permit too, so best to check with them first. Whilst it's nice for everyones home to have a unique personality, i believe it looks best when colours and design are in keeping with the original character of the house and road. 1950's homes are typically mid century, so think simplicity and clean lines. White wood siding in white can be a nice way to bring character to the houses facade. Plain, small format roof tiles in clay or slate are ideal materials for this era. I think your front door is where you get to have the most fun. Perhaps consider a colour. 1950's colours could be quite playful. I'd love to work with you on your inteior when the time comes.
