Help! Need a front door colour for our new build home!
Comments (5)You could do a red that blends with the brick, lick this: If your house is attached, try to maintain a mass look with your neighbor. Don't change trim or other details. Keep it consistant. If your neighbor likes the front door color then they could do it, too. Think of having one house where one door is one color and the other is another, the trim is one color in one section and another in the second section. I'm sure you get what I mean. But I think even if the neighbor wants to stay white, that would be OK. Another favorite on Houzz for front doors is blue. How about a dark blue like this: The right yellow would work: Or Black: Some colorful planters by the entry would also make you stand out - in a good way. Good luck!...See MoreNew home ! Comments (11)Do you have a separate living room? If you do, rather than add a small sofa I'd be tempted to go for a long rectangular table and add a banquette seat one side so you've got a comfy seat to watch tv. I've just found a couple of pics showing wishbone chairs with banquettes so ignore colour/style. Rugs do look great under dining tables although personally I wouldn't have one re cleaning! If you did add a sheepskin on a chair you're bringing in texture that waŷ. Re wood, I'd either go for a similar grain or pick one of the tones in the oak . I think the door works with the floor but you would be able to lighten it if wanted...See MoreDesign help needed - Victorian house - new front door issue
Comments (14)What a beautiful house. So pleased you have embraced the age and style of the house rather than deciding to ‘modernise’ it as so many posts on this forum want to do to their homes. The door is a lovely colour - agree with you about using that instead of the white on the surrounding woodwork - I’d use it on the inside of the door too. Crest idea is smashing. I think all it is missing then is some softening up ... I would add some beautifully simple planted larger tubs either side of the porch - I think the box look a bit too restrained & out of proportion - I’d go for white flowers spilling over the edge and silver foliage. Maybe something with height - olive trees? Bay ? Maybe echo the planting in window boxes on the ground floor cills (obviously without the trees!) ? White/silver planting looks smart during the day, but just glows in the evening & in artificial light so ideal at the doorway. More colourful planting would compete with the door, keeping the palette restrained would, instead, complement it....See MoreHelp, we have no vision and need to remodel our new home!
Comments (6)Hello Charlotte, The window on the side could be blocked and bring light down from above via sun tunnels to light a dressing room space. Keep the en-suite roughly where it is as all the drainage is in place. The dressing room does not need to be a perfect rectangle, it could be doglegged around the window as an alternative. Do you just have one daughter or other children. Perhaps she could take over the family bathroom if she is the only one using it instead of creating a cramped en-suite next to her bedroom. . How important are 4 bedrooms. Can you afford to lose one. Would that devalue the house? Perhaps the estate agent will tell you....See MoreChris Reagan
