Design Dilemma Polls Exteriors

Downward sloping drive

Hi
We have a drive the slopes down and there are 3 steps down to the front door. I'm trying to find ideas of if and how we could have a front porch installed. Any thoughts or experience you could share with me?

I think Jonathan may mean put a drainage trough in and drop the level of the driveway to a deeper slope so that the trough is below the DPC. If you look at the height of the DPC visible on the side wall, it's going to have to be quite a lot deeper. However, you will probably get away with no drainage trough as block pavers are supposed to be a porous material. I find the best source of local people for building projects such as this Yell. Have a look under your area or also take advice from people on your local Facebook pages which are always jam packed with names and number of people that have been used already and will come with good reviews. I'd go for a dark grey with an edge like this to compliment your front door.

fionaoneill, he isn’t finished yet, he needs to tarmac that grey cement bit just outside my drive. I’m not sure if anything could be done. He says the other solution would be to finish my drive about a metre in and then tarmac and that would cost a lot. Just don’t trust him anymore as he came up with ..”should have said this yesterday when it was getting laid..” ( which I did), “I told your husband it would be like this”( which is a lie), “ you are a bit mad for wanting it straight”.. that bit might be true , but hey my house .. so I do have a right to be mad if it doesn’t look right :)

Sadly we have a stone wall to the side, so no room for a sliding gate, and also there would be a large gap at one end under the gate. The rising hinges are a definite possibility, thank you.

Does a car need to go down the side of the house? Could porch have a entrance door to the side and the soil level here is reduced. The porch would be built below the height of the parking space in front of it.

We currently park on the road to avoidavoid parking on the slope. We are eventually going to extend to the side so something that will not intefere with the future plans.
