Help with living room layout please and thanks

Pulled everything out today and gave it a good clean, skirting boards too!

When I do this I tend to change the layout a bit since the furniture is all pulled out anyway!

Never been really happy with the layout, it is a strange shape room.

The 2 sofas are big, came from my last house, but thinking changing soon. The leather is good with kids, fear they would ruin any nice fabric sofas! TV unit and coffee table stay for now. Everything else can go. New side tables, unit, armchair by the bay window is all things I think I'll get but would like thoughts first.

Layouts usually vary between 2 sofas opposite, coffee table in middle. If I bring sofas in, the overlap the fireplace, fireplace not central.

Other layout I change to is switch TV with the sofa near window.

Thoughts welcome on layout and also in changing furniture/sofa in the next few months or so....

Lived with it for 5 years since we moved in so happy to do anything!

Also ideas for fireplace, which I would normally stick plants, candles in front. Thought of painting...what colour?

Coffee table isn't normally where we have it just if you were wondering weird position, I'm just having a break from shifting stuff about!

Does your TV have to stay where it is? What about swapping it with the sofa on the 315cm wall? The TV is opposite the window and opposite the fireplace - so there’s quite a few focal points and all in opposite directions. If the TV went onto the other wall, the three focus points would be in a similar direction.

2 other options. Have 3 x 2 seater sofas. 2 matching ones opposite each other and a contrasting one opposite the fireplace. A slim console table with lamps, objets etc may look nice behind the sofa so you don't have a view of a back of a sofa from the dining room. Or have 2 x 2 seaters opposite each with 2 armchairs either side of the fireplace facing the dining room. Do you also need to consider where a tv would be positioned?

I like this one with the symmetry with the fire. I might swap the loveseat for the armchair to give more space for a lamp and side table. I would also swap the chair in the bottom right for a smaller chair so there’s more space to get in the room. I think a footstool on legs in the sofa colour won’t visually fill the room. i’d probably also put the shelves in the alcoves (I guess those pictured are about the same width as yours) I dont know if that will seat everyone on a daily basis though! I love the cut outs, you can also use masking tape on the floor so you can walk around everything to get a proper feel

Yes absolutely! I would definitely recommend blinds and curtains just to give you flexibility on the amount sunlight in the room for layout 2. Yes the sofa is facing away from the garden, but with the addition of the 2 accent chairs, you still get a lovely view out of the window! :) Ooo absolutely, the joy of sketching it out just give you more ideas and food for thought. That is definitely an idea, the media unit will be the focal point in the room for sure and you don't want it too look to small in the room - I would be tempted to make it a bit bigger and make sure that the TV would be in good spot from the sofa. Too far along and you won't get a great view and that is important for this room! Let me sketch it up for you so at least you can have a look at the options. Jessica

One of the things people tend to do when arranging furniture in a room is push all the furniture to the perimeter of the room. Bring the left sofa tighter into the middle of the room. Then place a narrow console behind it to give you an area for some slim lamps and some pretty bits, You could even have a narrow bookcase type thing on that wall. Let us know what you think if you try it :)

Sarah, yes that the other layout that we go between and think we prefer it with the TV on the 315 wall.

Rearranged back to my alternative layout which is a better use of space.

Might get consoles for behind sofas.

Fireplace.... Papa is going to take it out and have a look to see if anything behind (behind the cardboard!)

I think that’s your better option - it looks great. (And dare I say it, but the Christmas tree would look good in the window!!!!!).
