living room layout - please help!

Morning! We absolutely love sofa.com’s Bluebell range and really like the Izzy range too. We mocked up scale drawings to see how they would fit into our living room and have really hit a wall. We initially wanted a 3 seater and a 2.5 but the sofas are so big that we’re worried they will look cramped. We also wanted to leave a small(ish) gap at the back of each sofa if we can. Do any of these arrangements work? We’re struggling to picture them. The only other thing that will be in the room is a rug and a full wall bookcase on one of the walls beside the door (if it fits!).

Thank you, the whole house has little paper furniture - so much easier to move (&clean) than the real thing 😂

2 other options. Have 3 x 2 seater sofas. 2 matching ones opposite each other and a contrasting one opposite the fireplace. A slim console table with lamps, objets etc may look nice behind the sofa so you don't have a view of a back of a sofa from the dining room. Or have 2 x 2 seaters opposite each with 2 armchairs either side of the fireplace facing the dining room. Do you also need to consider where a tv would be positioned?

Hi, Thank you for the photos, now I have a better understanding of the whole area. Yes, the sofa looks better after turning it around, but if you`re planning to buy a new one (or loveseats), it would be better to think about some modular sofas. They are easy to move in a space and you can match different sizes and colours as well. What do you mean with the option “c) separate the nook area with 3 white wood panels hanging from the beam”? Sorry, but it was clear to me. Regarding the TV nook I was thinking about the option to leave the TV and the cabinet where they are and use the walkthrough path between the column and the half wall as a storage place (see photo). You can place there a shelving system, which can be used from the dining area as well. You mentioned that you don`t like bumping into the sofa after entering the room. What about to create a small hallway and use some room dividers to make it cosy entrance, where you can sit down to take off your shoes and leave the keys and bags on a side table? The room divider should be something massive (wood or metal), but also something transparent to avoid creating dark corners. The playing nook can be placed in the corner next to the seating area (adding extra lounge chair optionally) and the home office on the other side of the dining area . Heres where the TV is Minnie, i think it probably is a bit of an awkward location for it but the room layout with two doors and an archway make it difficult to place. i really appreciate both of your suggestions, definitely want to get a bigger rug at some point, we only got the one we have from ikea (it was fairly cheap) just to see how a rug worked and we both love how it breaks the wooden floor up as it can feel a bit cold. Minnie, I did orginally have the larger sofa under the lights but then the smaller sofa looked lost against the other wall but I think you might be right and for symmetry it would be better swapped over. ive never thought about a lamp! thats a good idea actually! yes Minnie the country/rustic style is very much my look. the kitchen is a similar style too. Again thank you both for your help. lots of food for thought and ideas we can use. firstly to fing a bigger rug and a floor lamp!

Hi, years ago I bought a gorgeous leather sofa and matching armchairs and did just what you did with the little paper cut-outs to check. While they looked fine in the showroom, and on paper, when they actually arrived the sheer bulk of them made the room far too cramped. I ended up with just the large sofa and contrasting smaller armchairs which worked much better in the end without compromising on comfort.

Other than that I like the 2 sofas facing each other

Hi, Is there a particular reason why you want to pull the seating away from the wall, other than to accommodate a bookshelf behind? Compliment the two sofas, with an armchair with open arms, a timber-framed one on legs. This won't visually block the floor space quite so much, and you add the bookshelf along the 372cm wall on your right as you enter the room leaving a balance of space either side of the fireplace. The lefthand sofa can then go back against the wall, allowing for a small side table with a lamp in the corner between the two sofas.

Hi Minnie101, there will be a floor lamp but not sure yet about tables, a coffee table would be nice if there’s room but we’re ok with side tables if not

No reason other than a piece of advice that someone gave us, but we’re pretty clueless to be honest!

I think the one with the armchair in the window could be good. I’m no expert so just my opinion.

I like this one with the symmetry with the fire. I might swap the loveseat for the armchair to give more space for a lamp and side table. I would also swap the chair in the bottom right for a smaller chair so there’s more space to get in the room. I think a footstool on legs in the sofa colour won’t visually fill the room.

i’d probably also put the shelves in the alcoves (I guess those pictured are about the same width as yours)

I dont know if that will seat everyone on a daily basis though!

I love the cut outs, you can also use masking tape on the floor so you can walk around everything to get a proper feel

Just looking at your first pic, the gap between your two chairs by the door looks to be about 50cm, to me that is far too tight to be entering the room through so I think it will all look far too much

Can you show pics of the room. I also don't like a sofa tight into a bay window, your first pic with the sofa in looks very neat.
