HELP fireplace paint colour

Need help choosing a paint colour for this sandstone effect fireplace. Its currently a cranny beige and very dirty. Needs freshening up. Walls and trim and surround staying same colour. highlights/ furnishings will be on the greenish blue/teal side. hearth and interior are black and touches of brassy gold. trim is white. walls are indescribable, probably palest greige off-white nothing exciting.

Someone else on here (possibly Sonia?) mentioned a specialist paint for stone fireplaces a while ago. It’s called Stonelux and I’ve hopefully posted a link below. They have a range of colours that all look quite lovely, and you can buy it in different finishes, from smooth through to an antique effect. I like the greyer tones - there’s a lovely pale limestone and then a mid grey and also a much darker grey. I’ve not used the paint myself but seems to have fantastic reviews. Given that your fireplace is a stone effect finish, I wouldn’t risk putting “normal” paint onto it - I would stick to paint that is designed for the job.

Thank you, thats very helpful. I'll probably go with the Stonelux if I can get hold of it. Just need to pick a colour now!

Yes, to cornicing and a picture rail. I've also put up a ceiling rose. I was planning to paint the ceiling, ceiling rose and down to the picture rail white - and do the same in all the bedrooms and public rooms. You've got me thinking now about matching the ceiling colour to the wall colour... ;-)

Hello Nicola E, How you treat the paint work entirely depends on what you want to stand out.. The fireplace or the wardrobes.. This too depends on what else is happening in the room... If just a bed then it's entirely possible to create a feature of said wardrobes by painting them a bolder colour or the chimney breast a darker colour.. Look at the room and consider what you'd like to have as a focal point and how big the room is.. Shades of cream and off whites are far nicer than white.. So if you decide to include a white scheme, definitely look at shades of off white and creams.. Little Greene has a lovely range of chalky colours.. such as Whitening, White Lead, Stock etc.. These can be chosen for wood and walls.... They give a warm, chalky and sophisticated look which can blend beautifully with colours such as Celestial blue or James just to talk of blue and these are warm not cold blues .. I also like Juniper Ash which is a slightly mauve colour but look for warm versions of a colour you like.. So if the fireplace is to stand out and the wardrobes are a pale creamy colour the accent and focus is the fireplace which will benefit if the room is smaller than you'd like.. If you have a large bed then this might be the best way to consider it. If the room is large and you want something to create a statement then consider the fireplace and wardrobes.. A shade or two darker for wardrobes than chimney breast will create a frame surrounding both the fireplace and for the bed if this is facing on the opposite wall.. Blend the bedding and cushions, should you choose them into the scheme to create a cohesive and stylish finish. Lastly if you want a pale room with painted wardrobes these will form a statement and frame if you have less in the room... : )) Blended.... Contrast... This one isn't a bedroom but you get the idea..

Hi. You only have a few pics in your ideabook so I don't really know what style you like or what else is in the room. If in budget I would do something like this with subtle black and white geometric tiles. Colour-wise white is always a classic, but charcoal grey or even black can be very dramatic. I wonder if Brewers stock it? Here’s some painted stone fireplaces.

a nice warm grey like the first photo might work although a classic white or off-white might work to lift the room a bit. I hadn't considered it thinking it would be too pale but it could work. has anyone seen/tried the limestone colour in stonelux?

I've just come across this photo which has similar wall colour to mine and similar style fireplace but in limestone. Think it might work

does anyone know of any stockists of stonelux in uk? I can't buy from stobelux themselves since they charge about 25 pounds postage. I need a tiny sample pot!

I wonder if a masonry paint would do the job, after all it is used on rendering and brick? I noticed Stonelux will do free delivery on orders over £15. Not much help, I know, if you only want 1 matchpot!

yeah, I need to test a colour first. I tried one I found on ebay but was quite pink, wasn't too try a different shade but can't find it anywhere. so far all the masonry paint I have found here isn't actually a lovely stone effect texture like the stonelux is, it's more for painting actual masonry.

The testers look to be just under £7 each - so two testers and maybe a brush will take you to the £15 mark for free postage...

unfortunately I don't live in mainland UK so inexplicable extra charges apply 😢 I guess they use a courier. checking ebay and gumtree twice a week 👍🏻
