Bathroom layout help

Evening All,

Looking for some input/advice on a new layout for our family bathroom. Currently everything is very tired and needing to be replaced due to age/leaks etc so we thought we see what other layout options we could explore. Current layout is a little odd with the door opening more or less onto the toilet, seperate shower and bath, and generally it feels a little cramped even though it is 3.4m long.

Only real structural changes we can make are change door opening direction, ie open to right, and we don't need a seperate shower as a shower/bath combination is fine.

Current layout

Dimensions are

Length - 3.41m

Width - 1.43m

wall left of door - 94cm

wall right of door - 173cm

Window above bath is 118cm long

One idea I had was move the bath and toilet to the left hand side, but this would require a narrow bath or curved option similiar to https://www.drench.co.uk/p/drench-sienna-ss-shower-bath-and-screen-bv

Thanks. Design of the top bathroom is nice, however at this stage it is more the layout that is the issue.

I don't think you have the room for an oblong shower. It leaves you with only a 60cm gap to put the vanity. The toilet looks weird if you don't put it in the middle of the window too. Although, if you do put it in the middle of the window, you may have room for a little more storage on the right hand wall as you walk in . The vanity in your plan would have to go right up to the glass of the shower, as the bath will unlikely to be no less than 700 wide. 700 plus 600 for the vanity and 800 for the shower is 2100mm ( your total ) I think you can improve on this layout. You can get baths with storage underneath. I'd change the shower for an offset quadrant at 800 x 1200mm. I'd move the Vanity and Toilet to the right hand wall and have a combination vanity / toilet. You can then fit extra storage in to the gap between the shower and the boiler without making it look cramped.

My bathroom is slightly smaller, with a depth of about 170cm, and a width of 180/220. At the beginning it was the usual bathroom with a bath, basin, and WC, but we traded the bath for a shower, and we stole some space from the adjacent room to make space for a bidet (we're the stereotypical Italians ;)) it feels much more spacious than its size... I guess it’s too late now but I would have considered employing the services of a chippy or joiner to purpose make to size the tallboy, vanity unit and then something to fill the void at the bottom of the bath (perhaps just a top that could lift up and use it for storage). As it is with the 300 gap somewhere between the tallboy and the vanity unit and then a gap at the bottom of the bath it is a bit messy and disjointed.

I'm afraid I disagree having just paid a plumber £500 to replace a floor mounted bathfiller tap fitted behind the bath. The whole bath had to come out to replace the tap. The tap failed (leaking badly) and the replacement cartridge was discontinued so I bought a new replacement tap. Taps are harder to fix under a built in unit than a pedestal basin and toilets with concealed cisterns are harder to fix when they malfunction. I have had both. Built in you need to be very careful. I would also choose very high quality taps like Grohe, Hansgrohe or other high end makes and do a lot of research first. We have less than 3 year old (seldom used) budget specials from Victoria Plum that are leaking already. We bought our property with these already installed. The same goes for shower fittings.

Could you make the bath freestanding so it's more of a feature so it sits in the room rather than a corner, you could then have a nice big shower in the corner - 1400 sliding doors

Hi John,

If you’re happy to have a small bath, you can get 1400 long baths which will definitely free up some floor space. You can have quite a lot of countertop space this way. Door can either open out to the hall or swing to the right as you walk in. It is pretty tiny for bath though but as it’s a family bathroom, I presume you don’t want to lose the bath and go for a large shower?

The other option would fit a 1600 bath/shower but smaller space for countertop/ storage. I know some don’t like having a shower by a window so I’ve put it on the opposite side.

If possible, you want to avoid walking right into the bath as it’s the deepest item in the room. Go for wall hung vanity so more floor is visible which can give the appearance of more space. I would probably also put a large mirror above the vanity, again which will make the room feel wider.
