POLL: Do you sleep with the blinds open or closed?
Comments (19)unless I can live where people can't see into my room (Ok I do have a pretty voile but I have very nosey neighbours - and noisy - so the blind comes down, the voile is there and then there is a double thickness with blackout and heat/cool lining curtains! Possibly over the top - or not... I get migraines which means total darkness and silence for at least 10 hours - impossible to do with just the blinds or voile!...See MoreSheer blinds or wooden blinds?
Comments (8)It is a wonderful space and the view to the garden is lovely. However I think it would benefit from some softness that only fabric can give. Roller rather than wooden would be my choice. You could try a billowy white fabric treatment, but that may make it too 'bedroomy'. Good luck with whatever you decide....See Moreblind/curtain dilemna
Comments (11)I agree with Stitched that if you want blackout, you need blackout lining; proper darkness is unbeatable for getting a decent night's sleep. Like you, I wanted blackout AND to keep the bedroom curtains looking light and airy, and we solved it by hanging two sets of curtains from the same pole, using the same rings and hooks. The back curtain is a blackout lining in very light beige, just enough to cover the window plus a *little bit* of fold; I think maybe 1.5 times the width of the window. The material is not really very thick or stiff, it's actually quite flowing. In front, we hung very pleated/gathered, gauzy white linen curtains; I think they are 3 or 4 times the width of the window. Because the blackout curtains are less wide, they don't bulk up at the side when opened and sit fairly flat when closed over the window, allowing the white linen, which is very gathered, to billow in front. I hope this makes sense -- it's actually very simple but a bit awkward to explain!...See MoreBlinds advice for street facing kitchen window
Comments (7)I have always put roman blinds above any window like this; they do not get as dirty as you imagine, they can be vacuumed regularly anyway for dust. Anything slatted always attracts dust and looks a bit over functional/starter home in my view. You can get them made or make them yourself if you have any simple sewing skills, the measuring is hardest part, all the seams are straight and easy to do. I have found I have saved myself a fortune this way and they always look classy too. I would recommend washing the fabric before making up and using a less textured, more shiny fabric if possible, as they can then even be taken down to wash occassionally in the bath and hung outside; less texture on fabric retains the dirt and grease less....See MoreRuth House
