Comments (21)Not sure what your budget is, but how about a Pergola? It would look absolutely beautiful, doesn't cost a bomb to install and you could add some fast growing vines, be they flower or grape, or a mixture of both, whip the slabs up, lay a plastic membrane and then whack a couple of tons of peashingle down. To finish it off, I would remove the wall in front of the patio and replace it with some large planters containing box hedging, rosemary, or lavender. A little touch of the continent, right on your backdoor step and you won't even need to go through passport control!...See MorePatio Dilemma
Comments (28)Being a carpenter and having built a few decks in my time, I would go for an Ipe,Elondo, Balau or Iroko deck to complement your internal floor and at the same level as the interior floor. I think wide or full width steps going down into your beautiful garden. A deck should cause less disruption and the woods mentioned are relatively low maintenance, decking also gives a lot of scope for creativity with built in seating, benches, storage etc. Here is a company I found on Google, prices seem good and some nice pic's....See MoreSawn or riven Indian stone for patio?
Comments (17)We have cheap pale grey riven laid in a contemporary style which looks great. No problem with algae or flaking. It is also more allowing for the usual garden dirt due to its texture. The sawn looks lovely if you are really careful about keeping it clean. The riven somehow looks a little less austere - good for us as it looks neat but is forgiving when it comes to dog paw prints, foot prints etc.......See MoreGranite or sand stones for patio?
Comments (3)Hello Ataka, If you are after a hard wearing material that doesn't require sealing, then I would stay away from sandstone, as it's more porous and more brittle than granite. Regarding the slip resistance, you can get granite with a textured face finish, such as brushed or flamed and brushed (I wouldn't recommend flamed only, as it's as rough as sandpaper for the first few years). For the colour choice, some granite come in brown and black colours, which will be softened and lightened once the textured finish is applied. If you are after some cost-effective options, I would choose a standard black granite from India or Zimbabwe, but if you want to splash out a bit more money for a more impressive effect, then I would pick something different with a bit of character, such as Prada Gold or similar ones Hope this helps!...See MoreMarco A
