how to improve home exterior

hi
were in the process of buying this house.. we would need to tarmac the drive and put drainage down as its a slope. but how could we improve the exterior look? can you paint the panelling? what colours would you guys suggest? eg painting the panelling one colour and having different colour doors and windows. TIA

I agree, new front door, and some planting. The main problem is that everything is unrelieved red-brown! walls, windows, door, drive. Except the garage door, which then looks like a mistake! This is a common problem. You need to break up the brown. Render or cladding is probably overkill, there are more subtle solutions. Please don't put in an oak or stained timber door. It might look great in its own right, but will just be changing one brown for another! A painted timber (or composite) door would be best, with the garage door painted to match. Choose a shade of grey or green, avoid red and purple, as you need a good contrast to the brick. Ideally change the windows to cream, or grey-green, but if not, try the shutters. They are a bit 1960s, but might actually suit the style of this house! Painted to match the doors. Consider taking up some small areas of paving near the house to allow planting to create a break between the brick drive and the brick house!

Love reading about them but with young kids I just don't have the energy once they're in bed. And there's all the day to day stuff that needs doing while they are at school. Maybe I'll buckle down and create something worthwhile on the next midterm. I really enjoyed sanding down and repainting a garden bench we had.

How about a nice wood and slate roofed porch over the front door? It will add a bit of rustic charm, if that’s your scene. My brother recently did this with a rather plain 1950’s house he was working on. They changed all the windows to steely blue coloured frames and the front door to match. Looks lovely. I don’t have a picture, but this is an example of similar porches. If it’s too rustic for you, you could go for a more modern look.

Hi Everyone, I have spent the last few months redoing the inside of my house and giving into a more luxury and modern feel, however I am an unhappy with the exterior and think it needs a bit of a makeover. Suggestions will be greatly appreciated! I have zero DIY skills or time so whilst I would need to have any work done by professionals I'm not looking to spend thousands on this. Although I have been considering getting the pebbledashing removed and rendered to a smooth white finish. I am not overly keen on the plastic look of the porch so any suggestions to improve that would be great. P.s. ignore the interior that you can see in the back exterior photo, that has all been completely renovated with only the bifold doors remaining Thank you!
