Where are the bathrooms upstairs? As that gives a clue as to where the plumbing can be tapped into. I’m guessing all on the old part of the left of the building ( before extended bit) ?

Yes bathrooms are both to the left of the house

I like that option Jonathan, the laundry is good being at that side
I do wonder about the plumbing etc & expense to move to other side but its definitely a consideration
the living area looks much more spacious

does anyone have any other ideas? we can't actually change the study, living room or hall so anything that works with those in place will be great

I think you need to slim down the width of the utility section and be able to access the pantry directly from the kitchen rather than going through two doors.

I think you almost want to flip the utility with the toilet and utility and have the door on the side nearest the dining area. By making the utility one straight run against the study wall rather than a L, this will reduce the bulk of this section.

The toilet and pantry stay the same but pulled forward to where the current utility is (but the whole space is slimmer). The toilet can still be accessed via the utility and then this gives you a blank wall to run the kitchen into and then the larder is accessed from the kitchen side making it really quick to get to.

I've assumed the water works best to slide the kitchen back and use this alcovey bit for the kitchen but it could be a cosy area for dining and then you've got the bigger space on the right for the grand kitchen you've currently drawn.

If you're going full width, the roof design will be the key thing here. There might not be sufficient height for a pitched roof without clashing with first floor windows, so flat / shallow pitched roof might be the only option. As for planning, I'd recommend you apply for a "Non Material Amendment" to ensure you have the correct paperwork further down the line. Happy to help if you need it !
