Kitchen corner cabinets

We've got these kitchen corner cabinets where the door folds in and revolves and they're rubbish. They're also starting to break and in one case the door has come off. How easy is it for a novice to change to hinged doors with a lazy Susan you soon yourself? There aren't any holes for hinges in the cabinet anywhere.

Good afternoon Anna. Interesting. Here's the dilemma ( Houzz pun? ) ..the 15.19 if accurate does not scale with the pic as shown. Judging the sink wall to be about 5 ' (4' 6" perhaps)long, ( 2' for counters, 3' working space) ,it leaves less than 8 ' between the small wall and the front window wall. The pic shows a wall about 12' long. ( Notice the living room area is almost square).

Ideally you need some clear worktop space near a FF and a Pantry - so you can load and unload easily ... This could be next to them or an island near by - think coming in from the supermarket - dumping the bags and unpacking etc ... Also 540 is less common size for a FF so it may be wise to allow yourself a small filler that can be removed if/when you need to replace the appliance which will allow a 600mm space as this is a more available width .

Hello, MMMmm! Interesting! As previously said it does depend on what is going on around the rest of the kitchen. Is it a "triangular" kitchen or rectangle with a this odd bit ? But looks like it could be a prep area that extends to the window. Underneath a built in bin and recycling. On the walls cookery books but put a mirror behind and on the adjacent walls to reflect the light into the room. That window ???? Do you have the budget to move the window to the other wall? If not, look at your lighting. You could also make shelves across and parallel to the window for plants, herb plants and even small potted vegetables. Put a mirror behind them too. Make the shelving concave so softens the area. If you like mirrored tiles or glossy tiles, silvers, metallics, use these to reflect light. You can also get large acrylic/perspex panels that can do this and mirrored acrylic/ perspex too which is lighter in weight. If storage and space is an issue, depending on your taste, the look you want, think about sliding doors, no doors, swing up doors or tambour doors. Also a bespoke kitchen can be the same price as an off the shelf, depending on the look and the carcasses are essentially the same so you can mix and change to save. I hope this helps. Lovely space. The limed oak will be just lovely. How about a built-in bench seat with storage underneath. Nice big cozy cushion and a nice wall light to illuminate the space. A floating table will make this the ideal space as a reading nook or space to have a glass of vino! Best of luck with it🤗

I’ve not seen that sort of carousel fitting to a door before.

Can’t you unscrew the carousel, add hinges to the carcase and then drill hinge holes to correspond to where you put the hinges so they line up on the doors?

Yes I think so. I think the carousel will have to be replaced too as it doesn't spin unless the doors are attached. I'm hoping that won't be too difficult though?!

Any DIYer should be able to do it. You can buy the hinges from Screwfix and Toolstation. Get someone to drill the hinge hole positions to correspond and job done. Then buy a new carousel if you want one. Depending on the specific one you choose I do find a lot of them are space wasting. I would just put a mid way shelf in there.

Instead of going to the effort of changing it why not get a kitchen fitter to reattach the doors to the carousel?

If you want to change the carousel and have the doors hinged on the carcase you'll also have to add rails under the worktop and either a new bottom shelf or more rails, this is so the doors have something to stop against. At present the exisiting cabinet is bigger than the doors so the doors can fit inside and you don't want this if you want to hinge the doors. For the door hinging if you want to have the doors to bifold like the picture from Sarah L then you will need 2x 170 degree hinges and back plates to hinge the doors on the carcase, then the bi fold hinges and back plates to join the 2 doors together. I see that you also have long bar handles on the drawers so you don't want to hinge the door on that side as the door will get damaged by the drawer handles when its opened.
