Kitchen refurb.....Free standing American Fridge/Freezer

Hi guys, I wonder if you could help me? I want an American Fridge/Freezer in my kitchen design with a cupboard over the top, looking like its fitted in, but, can you tell me to open the doors would this fridge/freezer have to come out 100cm so the doors can fully open?

Yes. Most are deeper than your kitchen units so will stick out and if you look at the specification sheet of the fridge you are looking at you will find instructions of the gap you are supposed to leave between the fridge and cabinet to allow the doors to open.

Alternatively if you dont want anything sticking out, get a tall integrated fridge and a tall integrated freezer and put them side by side.

The second photo seems old fashioned to me although I suppose it depends on the style of your kitchen overall (this has a more country style).

Hi. There are loads of inspirational images on Houzz. I would start by piling through the kitchen pics and adding to an idea book anything you like. I am sure on a quick analysis of the idea-book afterwards it will become apparent the look/style you like and if integrated or American style FF are seen in those particular photos/kitchens :) Ultimately I think it depends on the look you're going for and how the space will work for you. American Fridge in the dirty kitchen or main kitchen

How often will you be cooking in the dirty kitchen (ie needing the gas hob) If it's a lot then why not put the gas hob in your main kitchen. With proper extraction it shouldn't be necessary to keep a gas hob separate. If you are worried about fumes you could consider a "broken plan" design with eg a Crittal wall separating the kitchen off.. It doesn't seem necessary to have two kitchen areas and you don't want to spend time cooking in a small utility when you could be in the nice main kitchen.. If you want both types of hob there are various companies which offer combination/modular hobs.

Wide integrated fridge freezer?

We had an integrated one like you describe in previous house - SubZero - it was great! But now we have a full larder fridge and honestly I don't miss the wide fridge. I probably miss the freezer drawers more, but they didn't actually hold that much - not compared to a full larder freezer anyway. The best thing was probably never having to bend down to access fridge drawers as the fridge was all at the top - but you could have two integrated fridge-freezers side by side to get that functionality - a friend has that and although you have to know which fridge something is in, it works well for them - and they have both opening in the middle so it looks like it'll be a double-wide unit but it's actually two 600mm units side by side.
