Change to extension layout help!
Comments (11)The 'living room' to the front of the house could be redefined as the 'family room' and house the relevant items required, such as a tv and other media items etc. The kitchen/diner could be explored further in terms of what is required in the kitchen by the occupants, as well as adding in plans of furniture and fixtures, so that you can fully understand the space and how it acts as a whole. If bedroom 3/study is a spare room, we'd suggest designing this room around that basis and therefore removing the need for the additional study & guest room on the end of the new extension, to save on costs. www.pwjarchitects.com...See MoreGround floor extension layout - Help please!
Comments (10)You need to put all the dimensions on for a real feel for the place. You would also need to instruct and architect and a structural engineer. A concept planner could really help to give you an idea of what's possible and open your eyes as to what changes could be made. I doubt you need to seat 22 on a daily basis, but you may be able to get two dining tables in on occasion. ( We keep another table and a set of chairs outside in a store room for such times ). We have one table that seats 8 all the time, then the other that we bring in which seats 6 more. It's a squeeze, but we manage. Thus I had a little shuffle about and came up with this as a 'concept idea'. Clearly specialists in their field will be able to help a lot more:-...See MoreNew Kitchen Extension Layout Help
Comments (13)@Jon Burchfield thanks, that looks really nice! Slight issue is that we have a pitched roof on the new side infilled area. Unfortunately planning constraints mean that the height at the wall will be 2.6m falling to just 2m. I know the velux windows are recessed into the roof but if we have tall units on that side it might block out the light, how high are the units? Having a 450mm unit in that corner would be practical but I think it would look a little odd if we had 600mm units next to it. Perhaps 450mm either end with 3 600mm in the middle would look ok? @Mark Bassage @kwg kwg Thanks. Take on board the hob suggestion from everyone. Seems sensible to have it on the other side. The oven/microwave is a tricky one, if we go with the peninsula design unless we have them under the counter then the only space would be just on the left as you enter. That's practical, but we're slightly concerned this ruins the nice open feel you would get to the left as you enter. @i-architect that is something i'd considered, first impression from the company is that it would be possible but i'm not sure why. I'll check with the builders. It would make access to the under stair cupboard a little trickier but might be more practical to make the most of the kitchen space...See MoreExtension/kitchen layout help please!
Comments (7)We have the exact same layout and decided not to extend the living area. There already was a mudroom/utility extension. We did remove the reception-dining wall and chimneys, removed the kitchen-dining wall. Our fridge freezer and oven are in the mudroom. And I cut a rectangle out of the toilet-kitchen wall to make room for a small toilet washbasin, the hole is patched with plywood and tiled on the kitchen side. The desk is next to the dining table, only need to turn the chair around. NB we do have a small cellar where we store food, oven trays and such....See Morerinked
