Hi Sue. Your question caught my eye because, here at Big Bathroom Shop, we often receive enquiries regarding how to make the most of bathroom space. Not surprising considering that the UK has some of the smallest living spaces in all the Europe! So, I decided to have our specialist bathroom design team look at your sketch, and following are a few idea's we think might be helpful. First of all, as has been mentioned, you will really need to move your door- if it is a stud wall, this won't be too big a job. You could move the door left or right. Let's assume you move it to the right; next to the cloakroom door. That would mean you could then place the bath along the left hand wall. You would really need to think about buying a smaller basin and there are a range of options available to you here. You could consider a compact vanity, which will also provide what may prove to be some much needed storage space. Or you could consider a corner basin or, simply, a small wall mounted basic. All of these options free up a good amount of space. This would leave you plenty of room to install a walk in shower; 800 or possibly even 900mm. You might also want to install a small basin in the adjoining cloackroom. Something to bear in mind, and a favourite saying of our resident expert, Stephen, is that you "aren't having a party in there!" At the end of the day, the amount of floor space that you need to have available is just enough to swing a towel about your shoulders. With this in mind you can work wonders, even in the smallest of spaces. Hello Yewande, Yes, start by identifying what is currently not working for you or if a new acquisition then decide on a theme. If you have no idea, hire someone who can come up with a myriad of ideas from which to help you narrow down what you intend for the home... Is the building a particular period? Does this inspire the interior in some way?.. Do you have something particular that you want to weave into the scheme... What is your budget... Do you need nifty ideas on how to save here and there... Do you need planning for what you intend? All these things may be able to give you an idea of how to start the process and If I can help you further let me know.. .... I'm also good with gardens... : ))

As others have said, if you cut the grass at the back and remove any obvious weeds, then you’ll have your “canvas”. I wouldn’t use a designer as a) I’m Yorkshire and far too tight and b) if you don’t know what you want yet, you’ll be in danger of really going OTT, to find out later, it’s not really you. D never really had a decent garden and moved into a new build over 10 years ago with a landscaped garden, I then filled a lot of gaps as I didn’t take into account, that plants grow. (Who knew?). 5 years later, I realised that I wasn’t that much of a gardener and that spending hours and hours every week tending it wasn’t my plan, so we stripped out loads of smaller plants and simplified it. If you want to sit out and enjoy it with fiends and family but don’t want to spend ages looking after it, then go for shrubs around the edges. If you want a new hobby or to test your gardening skills and like-ability I’d create a tiny herb patch near your door. This will give you an idea of whether you like gardening or not. I wouldn’t try and create your masterpiece in one go. Measure it all and play around with different designs.(PowerPoint worked fine for me) and then do a side at a time. As for your front garden, to be honest I’d tackle that first as it’s what you see every day when you come home and it’ll look lovely at Christmas. Just turf where it is, as I see it already has edging, again just cutting that and treating it with lawn care should be fine for now. A pot either side of the front door and then decide on the driveway. The resin ones do look nice, we have block paving that also looks nice but still has to be weeded and fresh sand brushed in between the bricks every year. Whatever you decide, have fun doing it.

So much potential. I'm not sure if that question was for me, but I would demolish the lean to, at least partially. It might be possible to save the supports to create an open structure-hard to see from the photos. I would enlarge the French windows from the drawing room. "Too much work" is subjective. Different people have different tolerance to disruption but, as you say, the layout isn't really functional for you at the moment. It's certainly less work and expense than extending. The problem of supporting walls crops up all the time. When you're looking at a project of this size, the cost of getting a structural engineer in to do the calculations and then have the necessary steel put in place is pretty marginal. The Building Control officer will then come and sign it off, as you probably know.
