Flooring Kitchens Design Dilemma

Which colour?? opportunity to change floor tiles

Long story, but the floating floor tiles in our kitchen extension are being replaced after a month. (It floats like the Titanic)

We are having porcelain tiles - so an opportunity now double check colour.

Slate grey units, galaxy star tops (black with bronze flecks) bronze glass tiles splash backs ......
so floor
Dark or Pearl???

It’s a large space - 40m sq.

I avoid more grey tones and go for a wood effect to add warmth. Something like this -

I suggest to pick out a couple of the colours in the floor that you like, head down to your local DIY store and pick up some of the paint charts. Try to find as close a match as you can and then go a couple of shades lighter. Get a few paint samples try them out at home and see what you are happy with. I know it is a bit tedious but the effect will unite the floor with the walls.

Hi, Yeah I'd go just one colour as well as I think it gives a bit more of a modern look. I think greys would look nice. We have a range of matt metro tiles which look really smart and there are some pale grey colours if you were worried a dark grey might be too dark. Thanks, folks - all your input is much appreciated! jprzym, yes, we'll definitely need some cosy rugs - I like the idea of hard (i.e. washable) flooring, but think I'd definitely need the visual warmth of at least one largish rug in living area and one in dining. (don't want to have too many small ones, for potential trip hazard) Naturally Inspired Flooring, thanks for confirming suitability of engineered wood - can you also confirm that it'd be OK with underfloor heating? I've seen mixed messages about this? I'm definitely coming round to idea of mixed materials, have now seen a few examples online which look really good.

The only way you can be sure of which colour will work with your cabinets, is to see the actual tiles in the space. So if you can, get samples out and lay them on your floor against the cabinets. If you have to choose between those two, I'd go for the dark one, but that is just because I think that light grey is such a cold colour and it's hard to say if it works with your cabinet colour. The dark tiles will make the space darker though.

If you can go for another option, I think Jules' idea of going for a wood look tile is better.

Thanks. Had samples and units goes with both options.

We had a wooden floor before - don’t want to install another one as not a fan of the look.

You can get wood look tiles, we have lvt as we know we'd ruin real wood.

I would avoid grey. It will look cold and too much of one colour in the room. A travertine stone effect porcelain tile in a natural shade would look good

too much grey..... and all the greys are from different families and have different undertones.
i would go for wood effect floor.... or even a wooden floor

I have star galaxy granite and a slate floor. Our extension is coming up to 14 years old and I regret it almost daily - it’s sooo dark and draining!!!! (It also cost a bomb, is bomb-proof, and is still perfect - so I can’t justify binning something that isn’t broken!). In my dream kitchen, I would have a wooden floor or large pale flagstones.

Agree with avoiding cold tones. Either warm wood tones or maybe a warm coloured limestone?
