Equivalent to Amtico Spacia?

hello, we've just started getting some rough quotes for LVT flooring over our 1970s floorboards. One shop has recommended Amtico Spacia as it's more "forgiving" of the flooring irregularities, even with a plywood base put down. Does anyone know which range in other LVT brands would offer the equivalent "forgiveness" please? thanks

I think the floor is meant to be planed or self levelling compound put down to level the floor before actually fitting the ply (And make sure the floor boards themselves are secure don’t have any bounce etc). For what reason are they saying the Amtico is more forgiving?

hi Minnie101, thanks for your response. My understanding from the way the lady was explaining it, is that with a 1970s house, we're not going to get a completely level surface over our 60sqm ground floor, even with lots of prep. So she recommended the Amtico Spacia boards as they are glued down rather than whatever the other option is...?!

I'm with Minnie101 and Provencale in that with base units in the top shade you'd need a darker, contrasting shade to avoid something "almost but not quite" blending in. If you see the opposite in effect here, where the client wanted to use a very light tile with a beige unit (a very tricky combination) we spent time looking at the 2 colours next to each other but held at 90 degrees so we could see what the contrast was between the flat floor tile and the vertical panels etc. It turned out to be just enough to create a difference of tone.

I have a similar product which had a different laying system put in about 9 years ago and it is great. Dogs mud etc As this product is no longer available in UK I am now putting Amtico down in another room. My main problem has been that the floor is concrete with no foundations or damp proof course due to age of property. I don't get damp but the vinyl tiles will seal even a small amount so I am having to have a DPC painted on first. Hence the other system previously it was not entirely sealed like Amtico and Karndean. So it is the laying that is costing me even more than usual and that is not cheap. I have found little difference in price between Amtico Spacia and Karndean at the better quality end of their range. So it is colour match that has driven my decision. What I have been confused with is Karndean guarantee. Some say 15 years for domestic use but a very reputable supplier tells me it is now 35 years across the range. Amtico is clear for the cheaper Spacia range it is 25 years. I know both products will tolerate hard wear as they are in use in so many shops & restaurents.

I would suggest you start by looking at your lease. Old leases tend to say no laminate or wooden floor, or that you can only have carpets except in kitchen / bathroom. Quick Step Pulse is waterproof and stainproof, but Amtico Spacia is stronger. I’ve copied a link explaining the types of Karndean LVT (if you look under products at the bottom). Karndean offer a lot of glue down floors as you can see and they’re cheaper than Amtico but its worth looking at other ranges too as Karndean tend to be the second most expensive!
