Comments (9)I did set up account on Qtect, I am not sure the service offering at QTect provides the adequate level of interactivity for me to submit a detailed design brief. Good sales pitch though, but I am not sure I would be able to set and convey my expectations however the propective designers budgetary need is already baselined right from the onset, which equates to a one way street, what if the 3 options (from all the designer proposals) are all rubbish, I am not sure it is a good idea to commit to paying for work that does not involve focused consultation....See MoreFull house renovation
Comments (3)I understand as my partner and I are currently in the process of starting a renovation. I think you first need to start by thinking about your lifestyle and make a list of things you want. Example a large kitchen because I like to bake, ample wardrobe storage because I have lots of clothes, a tv positioned to be viewed from the dining as we like watching TV while eating... These things which only you know about yourself and that we wish to incorporate in your home. Then start looking for ideas centering around those wants. What we find helpful as well is to use apps to plan the floor then play around with our furniture layouts. You also need to set a budget, because although everything is possible, you need to be aware of options that suit your finances. The architect can also help you understand whether certain concepts can be executed or not. It's one thing wanting to change the stairs andc it's another thing whether it's structurally possible. Hope it helps! Good luck!...See MoreRenovation / kitchen design decision
Comments (10)I do prefer Jonathan's plan. Just a few reasons:- I am not a fan of strings of rooms together creating lengths that you can see straight down, especially when at the end of it is a playroom full of toys. I think the playroom needs to be slightly segregated, although visible from the kitchen is great. His plan gives more longevity as you have a separate lounge, great for an adult retreat in future years, and also, the playroom then becomes a nice breakfast area when the kids eventually depart as teenagers to the dark recesses of their pits ( bedrooms ). Jonathan's dining area is much nicer too with a good outlook over the garden. A quick question...........is there a particular reason why you want an extra bathroom downstairs? In my experience, they rarely get used to their full potential. We have one, and, when our kids were at home, they moaned like trains and didn't like using it, so, in preference would hang around upstairs and wait for the main one to become free. Now, that they've left home, the only thing being washed in ours is the dogs. You probably would be better off with a downstairs loo and coat room, as currently there isn't great provision for all the coats, shoes & school bags you must have. You may think the Utility will get used for that, but it's too far from the front door as dumping your coats and shoes for most kids is an 'immediately you get through the front door thing'!...See MoreWhy do women lack the confidence to manage a full home renovation?
