Long dark living room area - how to separate dining living areas?
Comments (6)How about putting the chest of drawers under the window so it is visible when you first walk into the room. Then put the desk where the chest of drawers is currently. I would then get a large storage TV unit for the end wall where the dark furniture is. This would be best in white or taupe to keep it light in that end of the room. You could even get this made in the same units as the kitchen cupboards. I would buy new 3 seater sofas in a traditional or classic style to suit the antiques in a beige colour linen and then two armchairs in a patterned material - floral or stripe to suit your personal taste. I would keep the sofas in the same position and place the two armchairs facing the TV unit, side by side. You would need to make sure the armchairs were placed so they were easy to walk around and they would need to be small but comfortable. Keep the table where it is and update the lamp to a more statement piece. An orchid (fake or real) on the chest of drawers would add a touch of class. I quite like the rug that is there as it goes nicely with the antiques and you could bring out the blues with a few duck egg blue coloured cushions, and a duck egg blue roman blind would soften the window. Just some ideas.... I'd love to see photos when you've finished, it's a lovely space!...See MoreBrighten Up dark living room.
Comments (12)The sofa definitely looks like its blocking some light. Is it possible to change the layout so the storage is on the wall where you photo frames are as you walk in and the sofa moving to where the storage unit currently is, so the length of the room can be used as the living area? Also, the lack of natural light to bounce off the walls can make the light/neutral paint appear dull. These colours never work in a naturally dark room, they work best with natural light as, like you say, it can feel drab and dull. I'd suggest using a deeper wall colour to make the room feel cosier and homely, and use lighter and brighter coloured accessories and furniture to give the room a lift. The oak flooring will dramatically improve the room....See Moredark paint colours for living room
Comments (6)Hi there I think the green on that one wall looks very cosy and certainly works well. I would advise you to pair lighter coloured furniture against the green otherwise it could look too heavy. I think the same green across the other walls could work well, as long as you add contrasting colours such as white and also add warmth with gold and brass. Looking at your grey sofa's as you've not mentioned that you are replacing them I will assume they are staying and in which case you might want to go for a slightly lighter coloured green on those walls such as Teresa's Green from Farrow and Ball. As a side note I also recommend changing the colour of the door either the same colour as the dark green on a complimentary colour safest option being white! Hope that helps! Comments (5)It depends on what sort of 'feel' you like. I like quite neutral spaces with lots of texture so stoney colours, natural leather feels very relaxed to me. Little Greene have some new colour cards out with 'Stone' colours on, all sorted in warms to cools, it may be worth ordering one. They do light and dark versions of each colour so you could select specific ones for each room. They also specify 'accent' colours for the odd wall so all round a good choice....See Morehedgehog99
