What should I do with the red wall in my living room?
Comments (51)Pam Gascoyne Hi Tom, As the focal point of the room is quite definitely the fireplace perhaps you should start with making something welcoming and eyecatching be it with candles, fake but really convincing burning gas coals in the grate or even good lighting it needs to really glow. The room is not really huge and perhaps keeping the walls light with, say, a warm very light grey with similar colour linen curtains or white venetian blinds would lighten the whole room and white bookshelves would be really excellent. A rug is essential but keep it cool too like the John Lewis multi stripe grey/neutral. A print or prints are a good idea and with the neutral scheme you could have anything you liked and pick out a pop of colour from the artwork and add to the cushions. The mirror is definitely too big and too gold. If you want to keep it hang it landscape and tone it right down dry brushing silver leaf over the gold but it’s a good place for a striking piece of artwork you like. Good luck Tom and enjoy your new room when it’s finished....See MoreBored of grey living room. What next?
Comments (18)Thank you everyone for your great suggestions. I don't have a lot of money I'm afraid so can't really splash out buying everything new. My bedroom is Mauve with light grey accessories which I love but I don't really want to copy that in the living room. I do think a carpet would make the living room warmer as its quite a cold house. But would that mean more grey (for carpet)?! As comfortable as the sofa is, it was probably not my best idea as its limiting choices. I just need to decide on a completely different colour or light grey and light grey curtains. I like the geometric suggestions but maybe in a white/silver or the peacock blue wall. Also I had one of the side walls yellow at one point but got bored of that too. Thanks again for all your help....See MoreWhat colour/style of living room furniture would suit my living room?
Comments (4)Going for a white sofa would help create a light and airy living room. The white sofa would match the airy elements you already have in the room: the light pastel wallpaper and blue chimney heart, the white skirting, the light coloured wooden flooring. The black of the fireplace hearth can be tied together with details like black legs for the white sofa, black legs (maybe hair pin legs) for a white coffee table or for a cabinet (cabinets with legs look very smart: https://www.buzzfeed.com/alisoncaporimo/legs-for-days). Black cross legged lounge chair & ottoman in a navy blue would match the navy curtains. See through furniture helps for an uncluttered feel: transparent chairs, glass table, thin furniture legs, x leg ottomans. The window coverings also have to be in light materials. Consider introducing flowy sheer fabric with or instead of the navy curtains. White or light pastel coloured area rugs in the room and avoid choosing area rugs featuring heavy and busy patterns. Braided area rugs in pastel and light colors also make a good selection. Some pictures below:...See MoreDark flooring in light grey kitchen with dark blue island??
Comments (15)I have karndean flooring in my bathroom as well as the rest of the house. I have tiled my kitchen floor and glad I did. We have hard water and when droplets dry on the karndean in the bathroom they show up. They are easily washed away but I wouldn't like to be forever moping it. As for the floor colouring I have the pale grey wood and can promise it never looks dirty....See MorePaintforme
