Need advice to choose bar stools

I have a graphite kitchen, clear wood floor and white worktop. Any suggestion for bar stools? The island is 93cm high, and the overhang is 30cm. Thanks

I would choose a tan leather stool. Oak legs would look good and tie in with the flooring. If you wanted to be on trend try and find ones with brass detail. Gallery Direct have a stool called Palmer. Or go for something unexpected like Mindy Brownes Blake Bar Stool. Both can be found on Olivias.com

Smiffy47, you are going to have a major problem getting barstools that are high enough for a worktop at 115 to 120 cm off the ground. Also if you do get any, you will almost need a ladder to climb up onto the seat. I strongly recommend that you try to reduce the height of your worktop by 10 or 15 cm. Then you will be able to sit comfortably on a standard adjustable bar stool, at its highest setting, without your chin resting on the worktop. We get this problem so regularly. People put in a breakfast bar about 4 feet (120 cm) above floor level then they can't get any barstools to suit. I do not know of any legs that are 115 to 120 cm long, so I think that brackets would be the best answer. Maybe the brackets could be modified or made specially by a blacksmith/ metal worker to hook over the hole and hang down, supporting the worktop at a lower height?

I think you see bars (serving beers) with stools and no overhang. These are fine for a social setting where one person might be sitting with their back to the bar chatting to others in the room. If you intend to use the bar for food you need to face the island so will need the recommended leg room. Could you swap the 600 deep cabinets for 300mm deep? The cost of new carcasses might not be too bad. You should also talk to your kitchen fitter as he may be able to install them after the quartz.

Thanks for your advice everyone. We thought about steps. The extension is 6m wide so I think instead of looking like a zoo it will be a theatre! It is worth considering though. We only want the deck as access to the garden really. Maybe no more than 2m. We will use the right hand side as a patio area. We didn't really want a deck but seems like it is the right solution to have folding doors straight out to the garden rather than having windows. If we had windows we wouldn't have to deal with this deck business!

Depending on what colour your kitchen hardware is, there a couple of options that would work well in a graphite kitchen. If you have white worktops and a grey kitchen, I would add another colour or texture to the stools to create another layer to the scheme. If you don't like using bold colours, you could use an interesting textured metal or wood for the stools.

You could try using something similar to the silver wire stools below for a more industrial style

Or wooden stools are always lovely for a more contemporary country look. I would use a lighter wood, to add contrast to the dark grey kitchen and white worktop
